’Jills fall to Evangel
The Patterson Lumberjills fell to Evangel Christian 8-0 in Class 3A bi-district softball action Friday.
Evangel pitcher Carolina Sanchez, a Louisiana Tech signee, tossed a perfect game, striking out 15.
“We just couldn’t get anything going offensively,” Patterson coach Coby Minton said today.
As for No. 8 Evangel, Minton said they played did a good job with runners on base.
No. 25 Patterson’s defense surrendered seven hits and made three errors in the contest, while Evangel (21-9) walked six times.
While Minton said he didn’t think his squad played bad defensively or pitcher Taylor Hall, who suffered the loss, pitched badly, he said that the errors they made were “timely.”
Evangel, the No. 8 seed, scored a run in the first inning on a double steal, while the home team added two runs in the third inning via a walk with the bases loaded to Kayla Calhoun and a Patterson error.
In the fourth inning, Evangel scored five runs.
Patterson, the No. 25 seed, finished its season with a 14-9 mark.
The game was the final one for seniors Casey Stephens, Lucy Bennett, Rachel Easley and Carli McIntyre, who Minton credited for keeping the team battling even when they were down 8-0.
