Arnold has big day as Berwick rallies to top Patterson, 8-3

Berwick High School’s Jaci Arnold had three hits during Tuesday’s District 8-3A contest at Patterson.
Her last two were among the bigger ones of the game in Berwick’s 8-3 victory against Patterson in eight innings.
With Berwick trailing 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Arnold connected on a run-scoring single to tie the game at 3.
After teammate Rosalyn Gros connected on a run-scoring single to give Berwick a 4-3 lead in the top of the eighth inning, Arnold connected on a grand slam over the right field fence for an 8-3 lead Berwick would not relinquish.
Arnold finished 3-for-4 with five RBIs and two runs. She was a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
Meanwhile, Gros was 1-for-4 with an RBI and two runs.
The Lady Panthers scored a run each in the first and second innings.
Patterson added two runs in the bottom of the fourth and another in the bottom of the fifth on Madison Goolsby’s RBI-single to left field.
The score remained the same until Arnold’s and Gros’ late-game heroics.
Other top offensive contributors for Berwick included Mary Jordan Melancon, 2-for-4, a run; Madelyn Gros, 2-for-4; Madison Carline, 2-for-5; Sydney Aucoin, 1-for-5, a double, an RBI, a run; and Madeleine Hover, 1-for-4, an RBI, a run.
Sydney Aucoin earned the win in relief. In two innings, she surrendered no runs on one hit and fanned one.
Jordan Lipari started for Berwick and in 4 and 1/3 innings, she surrendered three runs on five hits with one walk and fanned four.
Tapanga Haven suffered the loss for Patterson. She had four strikeouts and a walk.
Offensively, Ashlynn Rock led the squad with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and a run. Other top contributors included Haven, 2-for-3, a double, a run; and Goolsby, 1-for-2, an RBI.
Berwick (6-6 overall, 2-0 in district) will return to action today when it hosts Kaplan in a 4 p.m. contest.
Patterson (3-6, 2-2) will return to action today when it hosts Kaplan in a make-up contest that is set to begin at approximately 6 p.m. The contest will follow the Berwick-Kaplan game.
Metrejean’s double lifts MCHS to win
Morgan City High School’s Scottie Metrejean had a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Morgan City past South Terrebonne, 5-3, in District 7-4A action in Morgan City Tuesday.
Tied at 3 in the bottom of the seventh, Metrejean’s double scored Allie Vincent and Kennedy Hebert for the win.
The double was Metrejean’s lone hit of the day as she finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
Earlier in the game, Morgan City took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
While South Terrebonne tied the game at 1 in the top of the second, Morgan City plated two runs in the bottom of the frame for a 3-1 lead.
The score remained the same until South Terrebonne tied the game at 3 in the top of the seventh.
Hebert led Morgan City with a 2-for-3 performance with two triples, two RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Vincent, 2-for-3, two runs, and Mckenzie Smith, 1-for-3, a double.
On the mound, Hebert earned the win. In 6 and two-thirds innings, she surrendered three earned runs on five hits with one walk and 12 strikeouts.
Morgan City (7-4, 2-0) will return to action today when it travels to face Ellender in a 4 p.m. contest. The game is a makeup from last week’s rainout.
Central Catholic run-rules Lafayette Christian
Central Catholic pounded out 12 hits, including seven doubles, en route to a run-rule 16-1 victory in three innings against Lafayette Christian on the road Tuesday.
Central Catholic plated 12 runs in the top of the first.
While Lafayette Christian countered with a run in the bottom of the first, Central Catholic plated two runs apiece in the second and third innings to invoke the mercy rule.
Kaleigh Navarro led Central Catholic with a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, an RBI and three runs.
Other top contributors included Brooke Lipari, 2-for-2, three RBIs, a stolen base, two runs; Hallie Autin, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI, two runs; Taylor Picou, 1-for-3, a double, two RBIs, a run; Jordan Morvant, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs, a run; Kelly Russo, 1-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base, three runs; and Cameron McDaniel, 1-for-2, an RBI, a run
Sarah Thomas earned the win for the Lady Eagles. In three innings, she surrendered an earned run on five hits with three strikeouts.
Central Catholic (6-6, 3-1) will return to action today when it travels to face Centerville in a make-up game of a District 7-1A contest from last week. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.
