Assumption sweeps Central Catholic Monday

The Central Catholic High School volleyball team fell to Assumption 3-0 (25-16, 25-10, 25-12) in volleyball action on the road Monday.
Assumption is ranked No. 3 in Division II.
No individual statistics were available.
This past weekend, the squad finished 1-3 at Archbishop Hannan’s tournament against a schedule that featured some teams near the top of their classification.
The Lady Eagles dropped their first game to Northlake Christian, the No. 6 team in Division IV, 2-0 (25-16, 25-19), while they rebounded with a big win against Fontainebleau, the No. 5 team in Division 1.
Central Catholic then fell to Ursuline Academy, the No. 4 team in Division III, 2-0 (25-13, 25-11) and St. Martin’s Episcopal, 2-0 (25-20, 25-23).
No individual statistics were available from the matches.
Central Catholic (11-17) will return to action Wednesday when it hosts South Lafourche.
Morgan City finishes 1-2 at Hannan’s tournament
Like Central Catholic, Morgan City also faced some stiff competition this weekend at the Archbishop Hannan tournament as the squad finished 1-3.
The Lady Tigers fell to McGehee, the No. 1 team in Division V, 2-0 (25-5, 25-10); Mandeville, the No. 1 team in Division 1, 2-0 (25-11, 25-19) but defeated Dunham, 2-1 (25-21, 15-25, 15-10).
Against McGehee, Dwanna LeBeau led the Lady Tigers with two kills and four digs, while Abby Reynaud had two assists and five digs.
Against Mandeville, Kennedy Hebert led Morgan City with three kills, one block and three digs, while Alex Thompson had two kills and one block.
Other top contributors included Reynaud with three assists and two digs; Allie Vincent, three assists and one dig; Alex Thompson, two kills and one block; Hanna Gros, three digs; and LeBeau, one ace, one kill.
Against Dunham, Hebert led Morgan City with two aces, nine kills, two blocks and 10 digs.
Other top contributors included Reynaud, six assists and 10 digs; LeBeau, two kills, one block and five digs; Mackenzie Smith, one ace, one kill and seven digs; Thompson, three kills and two blocks; Vincent, one ace, eight assists and two digs; and Albarado, six digs.
Morgan City (8-12 overall, 0-1 in district) will return to action today when it hosts Vandebilt Catholic, the No. 10 team in Division III, in a District 8-III contest. Freshman action will begin at 3:30 p.m., followed by junior varsity action at 4:30 p.m. and varsity action at 5:30 p.m., in a District 8-III contest.
Other action
Berwick (8-10, 1-1) and Patterson (5-10, 0-2) will both hit the court in district play today as Berwick hosts Franklin in District 8-III action, while Patterson hosts Catholic High-New Iberia in District 2-IV action.
