Berwick beats Patterson in straight sets Thursday

The Berwick High School Lady Panthers defeated the Patterson Lumberjills 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-10) in District 6-III action Thursday.
As a team, Berwick had eight aces and four blocks.
Ashton Morales had seven kills, two blocks, six assists and four digs for the Lady Panthers, while Abigail Askew had eight kills, one block and one dig.
Other top contributors included Mary Jordan Melancon, one ace, one block, 10 assists and four digs; Sydney Aucoin, six kills, one assist and one dig; Emma Hover, five aces and two digs; Hannah Carpenter, 12 digs; Jordan Lipari, two aces, one kill, one assist and three digs; and Madeleine Hover, one kill, two assists and eight digs.
No statistics were available for Patterson.
In junior varsity action, Berwick defeated Patterson 2-0 (25-9, 25-18).
Berwick had 18 aces in the win, led by eight from Morgan Romero. Romero also contributed two kills, five assists and four digs.
Other top contributors for Berwick included Jaci Arnold, two aces and five kills; Brittany Roberie, three aces, eight assists and five digs; Cate Koen, seven kills; Madalyn Gros, two aces, three kills and one dig; and Emma Hover, two aces and seven digs.
Berwick (19-14 overall, 6-3 in district) will return to action Monday when it hosts E.D. White in District 6-III action. Freshmen action will begin at 3:30 p.m. while junior varsity and varsity action will follow at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.
Patterson (17-8, 2-6), whose six-game winning streak came to an end with Thursday’s loss, will return to action Monday when it travels to face Lutcher High School.
CCHS clinches
outright district title
Central Catholic clinched the outright District 6-V title Thursday with a 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-7) victory against Covenant Christian on the road.
Kaitlyn Gros and Hallie Autin led the Lady Eagles. Gros had 10 kills, 14 assists and five digs, while Autin had four kills, three aces, four digs and four blocks.
Other top contributors for the Lady Eagles were Quincee Wiggins, five kills; Kaleigh Navarro, four aces; and Rebecca David, three blocks.
Central Catholic (18-19, 5-0) will look to conclude district play undefeated when it hosts West St .John Tuesday for Senior Night. The varsity-only event will begin at 5 p.m.
