Berwick boys win John Melvin Relays

Berwick High School’s boys won the John Melvin Relays team title, while its girls finished second in team scoring at the event, held April 8 at Geisler Stadium in Berwick.

Berwick’s boys totaled 188 points, while its girls accumulated 135 points. South Terrebonne’s girls won the team title with 204 points.

Berwick swept the girls individual awards as Ashton Morales was named Field MVP; Kloey Cuvillier, Track MVP; and Corrine Benandi, Outstanding Performer.

Morales won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches, finished third in the long jump with a mark of 13 feet, 8.25 inches and recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump with a jump of 31 feet, 3.5 inches.

Cuvillier won the 1,600-meter run in 6:43, the 3,200-meter run in 15:29 and finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:02.

Benandi finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 19.63, tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches, recorded a second-place finish in the pole vault with a jump of 7 feet, 6 inches and placed second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 1.75 inches.

On the boys side, Berwick took two of three individual awards. Ian Valdez won the Track MVP, while Kenan Jones was named Outstanding Performer. South Terrebonne’s Louie Blanchard was named the Field MVP.

Valdez won the 1,600-meter run in 4:55, the 3,200-meter run in 10:45 and finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15.

Jones won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 1 inch, the triple jump with a mark of 43 feet, 7.5 inches, the 400-meter dash with a time of 52.08 and finished second in the high jump with a leap of 6 feet, 6 inches.

Blanchard finished first in the shot put with a throw of 47 feet, 1.5 inches and placed second in the javelin with a toss of 150 feet, 7 inches.
