Berwick, CCHS are perfect at volleyball jamboree

Berwick and Central Catholic each finished undefeated in varsity action at Morgan City High School’s Volleyball Jamboree Thursday.
Berwick defeated Patterson (25-11), Highland Baptist (25-20) and West St. Mary (25-9).
Meanwhile, Central Catholic defeated Franklin (25-3) and Morgan City (25-16).
In junior varsity action, Berwick also was undefeated, topping Patterson (25-20), Highland Baptist (25-15) and West St. Mary (25-11).
Morgan City finished 1-2 in varsity play, defeating Patterson (25-16) but falling to Central Catholic and Highland Baptist (25-21).
Patterson fell to Morgan City and Berwick, and no score was available from the Lumberjills’ contest with Franklin.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City won all three games, defeating Central Catholic (25-21), Patterson (25-12) and Highland Baptist (25-13).
No junior varsity scores were available for Central Catholic, while a varsity score from Patterson’s contest with Franklin also was not available.
Against Patterson, Lauren Skinner led Berwick with four kills, one block and one dig. Other top contributors included Alyssa Gray, one ace, one block, three assists and two digs; Sydney Aucoin, three kills and one dig; Brittany Roberie, five digs; Jordan Lipari, two aces and one dig; and Ryleigh Arnold, one block.
Against Highland Baptist, Mary Jordan Melancon led Berwick with four kills, one assist and three digs, while Gray had six assists and one dig. Other top offensive contributors included Roberie, eight digs; and Roslyn Gros, four digs.
Against West St. Mary, Melancon led Berwick with one ace, one kill, one assist and one dig. Other top contributors included Emma Hover and Roberie, each one ace and three digs; Gray, two assists and two digs; and Arnold, one kill and one block.
Berwick and Central Catholic will open their seasons today with home games. Berwick will host St. John of Plaquemine, while Central Catholic will host Highland Baptist. Morgan City will kick off the 2016 season Tuesday at home against Hahnville, while Patterson will open the 2016 season Thursday at home against Franklin.
