Berwick finishes undefeated in MCHS baseball jamboree

Berwick High School finished 2-0 at the Morgan City High School baseball jamboree Saturday.
The Panthers defeated Franklin 2-0, while in their second game, they defeated Morgan City 4-0.
Berwick used a combined six pitchers in the two contests.
Patterson finished 1-1 at Saturday’s jamboree with a 2-0 loss to Hanson and an 8-2 win against Franklin.
In the loss to Hanson, John Guienze tossed a perfect game in the three-inning contest.
Hanson scored the lone run in the bottom of the third of the contest, which was set to go no more than three innings or one hour and 15 minutes.
Patterson’s Bryce Beaubouef limited the Tigers to one earned run on three hits with one walk and fanning two in 2.1 innings of work.
Against Franklin, Patterson jumped out to an 8-0 lead before Franklin scored its lone runs in the bottom of the third.
The Lumberjacks scored one run in the first, four in the second and three more in the third, pounding out nine hits.
Patterson’s Brennan Gouaux started the game for the Lumberjacks and surrendered just three walks and fanned three in two innings of work.
Jamey Fabre pitched an inning for the Lumberjacks and surrendered two earned runs on one hit with two walks and fanned one.
Offensively, Christian Soria led Patterson with a 2-for-2 performance with a double, four RBIs and a run.
Other top contributors included Gouaux, 2-for-2, an RBI and two runs; Matt Dardeau, 1-for-1, a double and a run; Tyrik Singleton, 1-for-2, a double and a run; Blake Dryer, 1-for-2, a double; Fabre, 1-for-1, an RBI; and Joel Singleton, an RBI.
Also at the Morgan City High School Jamboree, host Morgan City finished 0-2 with a 2-0 loss to Hanson and a loss to Berwick.
Three of the four area teams will open their seasons today.
Morgan City will travel to face Plaquemine in a 6 p.m. contest.
Berwick will take on Vandebilt Catholic in Houma today. The junior varsity contest has been cancelled due to the threat of weather, but the varsity contest will be played at 4 p.m.
Meanwhile, in a game moved to Patterson, the Lumberjacks will host Baker at 5 p.m.
Central Catholic finishes 1-0-1 in jamboree
The Central Catholic Eagles finished 1-0-1 at Central Lafourche’s jamboree, tying the host team 0-0 and defeating South Lafourche 10-0.
Against Central Lafourche, Charlie Barron pitched two innings and surrendered two hits, one walk and fanned one.
Patrick Barron pitched an inning in the contest and surrendered no hits but one walk.
Offensively, Patrick Barron finished 1-for-1.
In the win against South Lafourche, Greg Leger Jr. pitched two innings and surrendered no hits, one walk and fanned three.
Blake Hidalgo pitched an inning and surrendered one hit, one walk and one strikeout.
Offensively, Leger led Central Catholic with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and two RBIs, while Thomas Garber was 1-for-2 with two RBIs.
Other top contributors included Matthew Barbier, 1-for-1, a triple; Patrick Barron, two RBIs; and T.J. Ruffin, an RBI.
Central Catholic will open its regular season Thursday when it participates in the inaugural Tri-City Baseball Classic with a 3:15 p.m. contest against H.L. Bourgeois.
CCHS, Patterson softball undefeated at jamborees
Central Catholic and Patterson high schools finished 2-0 at their respective jamborees.
At the Teurlings Catholic jamboree, Central Catholic defeated Lafayette High 2-1 and host Teurlings, 5-0.
At Franklin High’s jamboree, Patterson defeated Franklin 5-0 and Centerville, 5-1.
Also this weekend, Berwick fell to Notre Dame 4-1 and Kaplan, 1-0, in action at Teurlings Catholic’s jamboree.
Morgan City was in action at Assumption’s jamboree where they fell to E.D. White, 3-0.
No score was available from Morgan City’s earlier matchup with John Curtis.
Area softball teams will open their regular seasons today as Patterson hosts Central Lafourche at 4 p.m., while Morgan City will play at Thibodaux at 4 p.m. and Berwick will play at New Iberia in a 3:30 p.m. contest.
Central Catholic will not begin its season until Thursday when it travels to face Terrebonne in a 4 p.m. contest.
