Berwick, Patterson compete at district meet

The Berwick Lady Panthers and Panthers led the area District 9-3A contingent at the district meet Thursday.
The Lady Panthers finished second with 85 points, while the Panthers finished third with 59 points.
Patterson finished fourth in boys’ competition with 37 points, while the Lumberjills were fifth with 22 points.
Additionally, area squads fared well in the individual awards as Berwick’s Corrine Benandi was named Field MVP and teammate Ashton Morales was Outstanding Performer. Patterson’s Daylon Charlot was named Field MVP on the boys’ side.
Benandi won the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 1 inch, finished second in the 100-meter hurdles at 17.81; third in the high jump with a leap of 4-feet, 8 inches; and sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 29 feet, 6 inches.
Morales finished first in the 300-meter hurdles at 52.36; first in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet, 3 inches; and second in the long jump with a leap of 15 feet, 6 inches.
Charlot finished first in the high jump with a leap of 6-feet, 2 inches; and third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet.
Other area girls’ first-place finishes at the district meet were Berwick’s Kennedy Sampey in the pole vault with a leap of 8 feet and Patterson’s Jamila Tate in the discus with a toss of 105 feet, 5 inches.
On the boys’ side, Berwick’s Chad Vining finished first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:12.12, while teammate Orry Arcemont won the javelin with a toss of 155 feet, 1 inch.
Below are the results of all Berwick and Patterson competitors from Thursday’s meet. The top four finishers in each event advance to regionals, which will be held Wednesday at Abbeville High School. Field events will begin at 1 p.m. with running events to follow at 6 p.m.
