Berwick run-rules Donaldsonville 10-0

Brannon Melancon threw a one-hit shutout as Berwick run-ruled Donaldsonville 10-0 in five innings Tuesday.
In five innings, Melancon earned the District 9-3A win as he struck out 12 and hit one batter.
Berwick scored four runs each in the first and third innings, while he added a run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings to end the game via mercy rule.
Berwick outhit Donaldsonville 10-1, while Donaldsonville committed six errors.
Offensively, Nick Duthu led the Panthers with a 2-for-2 performance with two doubles and three RBIs, while Brooks Richard was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs; Micah Soileau, 2-for-3, a double and an RBI; and Justin Morvant, 2-for-3. Other top contributors included Bobby Boudreaux, 1-for-2, a double and an RBI; and Daniel Gray, 1-for-3, an RBI.
Berwick (13-7 overall, 3-0 in district) will travel today to face Riverside at 4 p.m.
Guarisco throws no-hitter
in Central Catholic win
Central Catholic’s Samuel Guarisco tossed a no-hitter as Central Catholic run-ruled Gueydan, 12-0, in five innings.
Guarisco earned the complete-game victory and fanned four.
Central Catholic scored two runs in the first, five in the second, four in the third and one in the fourth for the 12-0 final.
Barron Courtney led the Eagles with a 1-for-2 performance with a home run, two RBIs, two runs and a stolen base, while Charlie Barron was 1-for-2 with three RBIs, two runs and a stolen base. Other top contributors included Gregory Leger, 1-for-1, a double and an RBI; Nick Case, 1-for-1, three RBIs; and Sage Thibodaux, 1-for-2, two RBIs.
Even in the big win, the Eagles left 10 runners on base.
Central Catholic (18-2) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Highland Baptist in a 6 p.m. contest.
PHS, MCHS rained out
Patterson and Morgan City high school’s baseball district contests against E.D. White and Ellender, respectively, were canceled Tuesday due to inclement weather.
Both teams will be on the road today. Patterson will play at 4 p.m., Morgan City will play junior varsity at 4 p.m. with varsity following.
