Berwick tops Patterson, 4-2

The Berwick Panthers scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and made it stand as they topped Patterson, 4-2, in District 8-3A action in Berwick Tuesday.
Berwick made their move in the sixth with the game tied at two after each team scored a run in the fifth inning.
Berwick opened the game’s scoring with a run in the bottom of the first, while Patterson tied the game at 1 in the top of the third.
Hits were even at six apiece among the two squads.
Cameron Wiley earned the win for Berwick. In a complete-game effort, he surrendered two earned runs on six hits with three walks and fanned three.
Offensively, Bradley Gray led Berwick with a 2-for-3 performance with two doubles and an RBI. Other top contributors included Tanner Caldwell, 2-for-3, a double and two RBIs; and D.J. Robicheaux, 1-for-3, a double.
Joel Singleton suffered the loss for Patterson. In a complete-game effort, he surrendered four earned runs on six hits with three walks and fanned one.
Offensively, Brennan Gouaux led Patterson with a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and a stolen base, while Jamey Fabre recorded an RBI.
Patterson (9-10 overall, 1-3 in district) will continue district play Thursday when it travels to face E.D. White. E.D. White is ranked No. 2 in the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A power rankings.
Meanwhile, Berwick also will continue district play Thursday when it hosts Kaplan. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m.
CCHS sweeps
doubleheader
The Central Catholic Eagles remained perfect in District 7-1A action with a pair of run-rule victories against Highland Baptist on the road Tuesday.
The Eagles won both games in five innings, knocking off the Bears 14-2 and 13-0.
Thomas Mire and Tyler Longman both turned in complete-game performances to earn the victories.
“We got two very good outings from two young guys, Thomas Mire and Tyler Longman,” Central Catholic coach Tyler Jensen said. “It was good to see them go out there and pound the strike zone and let their defense work. I think they walked two guys combined all day.”
Offensively, the Eagles combined for 26 hits in the two contests.
“I thought we swung the bats much better than we have been,” Jensen said. “We squared up a lot of baseballs. Hopefully we can build off that going forward.”
In the 14-2 victory, Central Catholic did all of its damage in the first three innings, scoring five runs in the first, one in the second and eight in the third.
Highland Baptist scored a run in the top of the second and another in the top of the fourth.

Drake Angeron led the Eagles with a 3-for-3 performance with three RBIs and a run. Other top offensive contributors included Samuel Guarisco, 3-for-3, an RBI, a stolen base and three runs; Thomas Garber, 2-for-3, three RBIs; Adam Dupuis, 2-for-3, a run; Patrick Barron, 1-for-3, an RBI, a run; and Stefano Guarisco, an RBI, a run, a stolen base.
On the mound, Mire pitched all five innings and surrendered two earned runs on seven hits with one walk and fanned three.
In the other game, Central Catholic scored two runs in the first, three in the second and eight in the fifth.
Angeron led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI, a stolen base and a run. Other top contributors included Samuel Guarisco, 2-for-4, two RBIs, a stolen base. two runs; Dupuis, 2-for-3, a double, an RBI, two runs; Mitchell Lemoine, 2-for-4; Gregory Leger, 1-for-4, a triple, three RBIs, a run; Barron, 1-for-4, three RBIs, a stolen base, a run; and Garber, an RBI.
Longman earned the complete-game victory. In five innings, he tossed a three-hitter with one walk and fanned three.
Central Catholic (16-3, 6-0), the top-ranked team in Class 1A according to the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, will return to action today when it hosts Vermilion Catholic in a 6 p.m. contest. Vermilion Catholic is ranked No. 10 in the latest rankings and 5-1 in league play.
“I want to urge our fans to come out and support our team against V.C.,” Jensen said. “We haven't had the crowds we are accustomed to at home games, so I'm urging fans to come out and support us down the last stretch of the season.”
Morgan City
run-rules Ellender
Behind a nine-run fourth inning, the Morgan City Tigers run-ruled Ellender, 16-1, in District 7-4A action in Houma Tuesday.
Leading 5-1 heading into the top of the fourth, Morgan City scored nine runs in the frame.
The Tigers added two runs in the top of the fifth and Ellender could not counter, ending the game via the mercy rule.
While the Tigers pounded out 11 hits in the win, pitcher Rhett Fryou also threw a one-hitter. In five innings, he surrendered one earned run, one walk, one hit batter and fanned five.
Ellender committed five errors in the loss.
Philip Hutchinson led Morgan City with a 2-for-2 performance with a double and two RBIs. Other top contributors included Evan Stadalis, 1-for-2, two RBIs, a run; Colby Glatter, 1-for-2, an RBI, a stolen base, two runs; Morquisse Charles, 1-for-2, an RBI, a run; Abram Hartley, 1-for-3, two RBIs, a stolen base, a run; Andrea Dragna, 1-for-1, two RBIs, a run; Jean Pat Dupuy, 1-for-1, an RBI, a run; Alex Brocato, 1-for-1, a double, a run; and Maurice Martin and Logan Tingle, each an RBI.
Morgan City (10-10, 3-0) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Ellender at 6 p.m. in district action.
