Berwick will hit the road for opener against Delcambre

We just have to convert better in certain spots and continue to improve each week.

Berwick and Delcambre hope to rebound from setbacks in jamboree action Friday.
Berwick played a spirited matchup against Covenant Christian Academy in the Taco Bell/KFC St. Mary Parish Football Jamboree in Morgan City. The Lions outlasted the Panthers 27-19, but Berwick had its chances.
Berwick got down early 14-0 before putting points on the board thanks to four Covenant Christian penalties and hitting a fake punt. Two plays later, Berwick quarterback Jeremy Boudreaux hooked up with Audwin Williams on a 14-yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-6. Boudreaux was 4-of-10 passing for 51-yards and two scores despite a couple drops. He found Williams again on a 33-yard scoring pass with 54 seconds remaining in the first-half to cut the lead to 14-12 at halftime.
“Jeremy played well,” Berwick head coach Craig Brodie said following the game. “He tossed a couple touchdown passes to Audwin Williams. They (Covenant Christian) were taking away our inside veer game, and they were a little faster than we thought they would be, but we made adjustments and went to play-action passes and they were in man coverage to stop our run and the kids executed.”
Berwick had a couple key drops in the passing game.
“I was pleased with our scoring Friday,” he said. “We just have to convert better in certain spots and continue to improve each week.”
The Panthers answered another Covenant Christian score when running back Marquis Rogers broke free for a 77-yard touchdown run with 3:26 to play.
“I was happy with our effort, mainly,” Brodie stressed. “We didn’t get our head down, and we competed until the very end. That’s what we have been working to build here.”
Delcambre lost 13-0 to Highland Baptist in the Iberia Parish Sugar Cane Jamboree Friday.
Delcambre ran more plays, (26 to 15 for Highland).
However, Highland made two big scoring plays with a 51-yard touchdown completion on the first half’s final play and a 60-yard touchdown run in the second half.
Delcambre advanced to Highland Baptist’s 16-yard line twice but could not finish the drives.
“They run a double wing and do a lot of the same things we do out of our veer,” Brodie said. “They like to run leads, tosses and play-action, too, so our kids are familiar with defending it.”
Friday’s kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. in Delcambre.
