BHS, PHS athletes going to state meet

The Berwick High School track team qualified several athletes for the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 3A track and field meet, while Patterson qualified one competitor at the Region 2-3A track meet last week.
Berwick’s Chad Vining, Kennedy Sampey and Ashton Morales all qualified for state, while Patterson’s Daylon Charlot also will advance.
Vining will make the trip in the 800-meter run after recording a third-place finish with a time of 2:07.33.
Sampey also finished third at the regional meet, qualifying for state after jumping 10 feet.
Morales, who originally was an alternate for state following a fourth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 34-feet, 0.75 inches, now will compete at state after a competitor in the event will not be participating.
Patterson’s Daylon Charlot also qualified for state after finishing third in the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 8 inches.
The top three competitors and relays in each event advance to Saturday’s track and field meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium.
Additionally, Berwick boys’ 4x400-meter relay of Marquise Rogers, Zach Dupuy, Brooks Richard and Vining finished sixth at regionals with a time of 3:36.6.
