BHS uses big inning to rout 'Jills

Berwick used a big fifth inning to run-rule Patterson 21-6 in District 9-3A softball action Thursday.
While the Lady Panthers led 8-4 entering the frame, Berwick erupted for 12 runs in the inning for a commanding 21-4 lead. Patterson plated two runs in its final at bat before the game was called.
Both teams scored three runs in the first inning, while Berwick added three more in the second and third innings, respectively, for a 9-3 advantage. Patterson responded with a run in the bottom of the third.
Berwick pounded out 18 hits in the contest, led by Jordan Lipari’s 5-for-5 performance with seven RBIs and two runs. Other top contributors included Maddie Gray, 4-for-4 with an RBI and three runs. Shannon Theriot, 4-for-5, five runs; Shelby Bergeron, 3-for-3, two RBIs; Emma Hover and Mary Jordan Melancon, each 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run, and Jaci Arnold, three RBIs.
Bergeron earned the win for the Lady Panthers. In five innings, she surrendered six runs on 11 hits and fanned three.
No individual statistics were available for Patterson.
Berwick (7-9 overall, 3-0 in district) will continue action today in a local matchup at Catholic High-New Iberia’s tournament when it faces Central Catholic in a 3 p.m. contest. Later Friday, the Lady Panthers will play Captain Shreve at 6:50 p.m.
On Saturday, Berwick will continue the tournament with matchups against Catholic High-Point Coupee at 10 a.m. and Buckeye at 4 p.m.
Patterson (7-4, 0-2) will return to action Monday when it travels to face Ellender in a 4 p.m. contest.
CCHS shuts out Hanson
Central Catholic did all of its damage in two innings en route to a 8-0 win against Hanson in District 7-1A play Thursday in Franklin.
The Lady Eagles plated five runs in the third inning and three more in the fifth.
Megan Landry earned the win for Central Catholic. In seven innings, she surrendered two hits, three walks and fanned nine, while at the plate, she finished 3-for-3 with a double.
Other top contributors for the Lady Eagles included Brittany Longman, 2-for-3, a double, two RBIs and a run; Gee Garrett, 2-for-4, three RBIs and a run; Brooke Lipari, 1-for-3, an RBI and a run; Kaitlyn Gros, 1-for-4, an RBI and a run; and Bridgette Swan, 1-for-4, a double.
Central Catholic (11-2, 4-0) will participate in Catholic High-New Iberia’s tournament this weekend, beginning with today’s matchup with Berwick. Central Catholic also will face Captain Shreve and Kaplan Saturday afternoon.
Morgan City falls to
Vandebilt Catholic
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to Vandebilt Catholic 11-0 in District 7-4A action Thursday in Morgan City.
Brandi Ingram led Morgan City with a 1-for-3 performance with a single, while Tyler Hebert took the loss on the mound, surrendering 14 hits, six walks and fanning four.
Morgan City (10-6, 2-1) will return to action today when it participates in Brusly’s tournament. The Lady Tigers will play Loranger at 4 p.m. today while facing Westminster Saturday at 10 a.m. and North Vermilion at noon.
