Bobcats defeat Franklin Hornets 41-6 in District 8-3A
ERATH _ The Erath Bobcats scored a 41-6 District 8-3A victory over the Franklin Hornets here Friday at the EHS Stadium.
Erath (5-1) moved to a perfect 3-0 record in District 8-3A action while the Hornets slipped to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in league play.
Erath runningback Elijah Mitchell ran for 217 yards on 14 carries to propel the Bobcats.
Mitchell recorded touchdown runs of 2, 38 and 57 yards sandwiched around Franklin’s Alvontra Perro’s 58-yard TD run.
EHS’ Bailey Ward opened the scoring with a 12-yard TD reception from Mason Granger. Dylan Floris booted the extra-point giving the Bobcats a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Mitchell handed the Bobcats a 14-0 advantage after scoring on a two-yard TD plunge prior to Floris making good on the point-after-touchdown.
Perro raced 58 yards for a touchdown, helping the Hornets trim the Bobcats’ lead to 14-6 in the first period.
Mitchell answered with his second touchdown on a 38-yard TD scamper before Floris tacked on the P-A-
T, sending the Bobcats outfront by a 21-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Bren Faulk hauled in a 52-yard scoring strike from Granger, putting the Bobcats ahead by a 27-6 margin.
Mitchell went on a 57-yard scoring jaunt before Floris kicked the extra-point as EHS moved to a 34-6 lead.
Granger scored on a 7-yard touchdown run, lifting Erath to the 41-6 district win over the Franklin Hornets.
Franklin (1-5, 0-3) will host the North Vermilion Patriots (1-5, 0-2) for homecoming next Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium.
