Bulldogs edge Panthers, 58-57

The Berwick Panthers fell to Ascension Catholic, 58-57, Friday.
Kenan Jones and Audwin Williams both reached double figures for the Panthers, with Jones leading the team with 18 points and Williams adding 16.
Other top scorers included Donald Tillman with eight, Larenz Clark, six; and Travis Whitehead, four.
Berwick (7-5) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts West St. Mary.
‘Jacks defeat Assumption
The Patterson Lumberjacks defeated the Assumption Mustangs, 60-43, in boys’ basketball action Friday.
Patterson jumped out to a 23-5 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 32-13 at the half.
While Assumption outscored Patterson, 12-11, in the third quarter and 18-17 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough.
Patterson had four players in double figures, led by Taylan Grogan’s 16 points.
Others reaching double figures included Malik Garrett and Mykel Jones with 11 apiece and D.J. Jones with 10.
Other scorers for Patterson were Kenneth Washington, eight; and Tyric Garrett and Brandon Ramagos with two points each.
Patterson (6-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Ellender in a 7 p.m. contest.
Other games Tuesday
Morgan City (8-5) and Central Catholic (3-8) also will hit the court again Tuesday as the Tigers host Kaplan in a 6:30 p.m. contest, while Central Catholic will begin District 7-1A action when it hosts Highland Baptist in a contest set for about a 7 p.m. tip.
