Byrd edges Hanson

EUNICE _ Pitcher Connor Gulledge went the distance, leading the Byrd High School to an 8-3 victory over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Wednesday at the LSU of Eunice Baseball Field.
Gulledge earned the mound victory after working seven complete innings, allowing three runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Hanson starting pitcher Evan Thibodeaux took the loss after working one inning before leaving with shoulder soreness. Noah Judice appeared in relief of Thibodaux, hurling three innings, giving up five runs on four hits with three walks. Brock Broussard pitched the final two frames, surrendering no runs on three hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Brennan Young led the Tigers at the plate with a 2 for 4 effort with one run. Luke Lancon went 1 for 2 with a run while Bo Barrilleaux went 3 for 4. Josh Sanchez went 1 for 2 with a run while Spencer Bishop went 1 for 3 and Chase Mensman had one RBI.
Zack Flash led Byrd with a 3 for 4 outing with 3 RBI and 2 runs. Wyatt Broome went 3 for 4 with 2 runs.
Hanson will return to action today versus Opelousas in the Rayne Tournament.
