Calvary Baptist tops Catholic High-New Iberia for Division III title

Calvary Baptist repeats as state champions after a 27-24 victory over Catholic High of New Iberia in the Allstate Sugar Bowl/LHSAA Division III championship game Friday.

Tied at 24 late in the fourth quarter, Calvary Baptist drove 70 yards for the game-winning score when Trevor Stevens kicked the go-ahead 26-yard field goal to give them the winning advantage.

Trailing 24-17 late in the third quarter, Catholic-New Iberia tied the game when Jason Pellerin's seven-yard touchdown run capped a 14-play 69-yard drive.

Tied at 17, Shea Patterson gave Calvary a 24-17 lead when he found Vyron Brown for a 78-yard touchdown.

The win for the Cavaliers (12-1) is the second consecutive state championship for the program.

Catholic-New Iberia's Panthers (12-1) were seeking their first state championship since the 1962 season.
