Catholic High edges Berwick, 6-5

Catholic High-New Iberia plated a run in its last at bat to top Berwick High 6-5 in nondistrict softball action Wednesday.
Catholic High came up with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh after tying the game at 5 two innings before.
Early on, Berwick scored one run in the top of the first, and after Catholic High scored a run in the bottom of the first, Berwick responded with a run apiece in the second and third innings and two more in the top of the fifth for a 5-2 advantage.
Berwick outhit Catholic High-New Iberia 12-9 in the contest.
Shannon Theriot led the Lady Panthers with a 2-for-3 performance with a stolen base and two runs, while Shelby Bergeron was 2-for-3 with a run. Other top contributors included Maddie Gray, 2-for-4, two RBIs; Rennen Delatte, 1-for-1, an RBI; and Jordan Lipari and Regan Bowers, each 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Sydney Jambois suffered the loss for Berwick. In seven innings, she surrendered six runs on nine hits with two walks and fanned two.
Berwick will take part in an unusual doubleheader today as it will play Lutcher at home at 3:30 p.m. before making the short trip to Bayou Vista to face Central Catholic in a makeup game set for a 6:30 p.m. start.
