CCHS’ Grizzaffi, Knight qualify for state meet

The Central Catholic track team qualified two performers for the state track and field meet next Friday as both won their qualifying events at the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Region 2-1A meet at Basile High Tuesday.
Sal Grizzaffi qualified for state with wins in the 1,600-meter run in 4:59.89 and the 3,200-meter run in 11:06.94.
He also finished fifth in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:13.17.
For his performances, Grizzaffi was named Outstanding Track Performer.
Meanwhile, Meo Knight won the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 4 inches to qualify for state.
Also, Central Catholic’s Hallie Autin finished sixth in both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles with times of 18.5 and 51.81, respectively.
Autin’s 300-meter hurdle performance set a school record, Central Catholic coach David Fuhrer said.
Central Catholic finished 11th in the boys’ standings with 22 points, while it finished tied with Gueydan for 12th in the women’s standings with 12 points.
Hamilton Christian won the women’s regional team title with 108 points, and Vermilion Catholic won the regional boys’ title with 133.5 points.
Grizzaffi and Knight will compete at the state Class 1A meet at LSU’s Bernie Moore Track Stadium May 9.
