CCHS is 2nd at Westgate tourney

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles finished second at Westgate’s tournament this weekend, falling to New Iberia in the title game, 65-51 Saturday.
The Iberia Parish-based squad jumped out to a 21-12 lead after the first quarter, while Central Catholic cut the deficit to 32-27 at the half.
New Iberia led 45-41 after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth following a 20-10 scoring advantage.
Randi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 23 points, 4 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal, while Meo Knight had 22 points, 3 rebounds and an assist.
Other top contributors included Gee Garrett, 4 points and 3 rebounds; and Megan Landry, 2 points and 6 rebounds.
Earlier Saturday, Central Catholic defeated McKinley 51-35.
The Lady Eagles jumped out to a 24-5 first quarter lead and extended its halftime advantage to 40-9.
McKinley had the upper hand in the final two periods, outscoring Central Catholic 13-9 in the third quarter and 13-2 in the fourth.
Knight and Brown both recorded double-doubles, with Knight scoring 19 points and adding 11 rebounds, while Brown had 17 points and 13 rebounds. Knight also contributed 3 blocks, 5 steals and 5 assists, while Brown had 4 steals and an assist.
Other top contributors included Landry, 6 points, 3 rebounds and 2 blocks; and Garrett, 6 points and 6 rebounds.
Central Catholic (4-1) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Assumption at 6 p.m.
Patterson splits
contests Saturday
The Patterson Lumberjills finished 1-1 Saturday, picking up their first win of the season against Westgate before falling to Comeaux in action at Westgate’s tournament.
Saturday morning, Patterson defeated Westgate 36-24 before falling to Comeaux, 53-26 Saturday afternoon.
No individual statistics were available for either game.
The win against Westgate was not only the team’s first this season but the first for new head coach Tyler Olivier.
Patterson (1-5) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts H.L. Bourgeois in junior varsity and varsity action, beginning at 6 p.m.
Lady Panthers fall in
3rd-place game
The Berwick Lady Panthers finished 0-2 at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche, falling to the host squad Friday before losing the third-place game to Houma Christian Saturday.
In Friday’s contest against Centerville, the Lady Panthers, who received a first-round bye in the tournament, fell 28-17.
Centerville took a 12-1 lead after the first quarter and a 19-8 lead at the half.
The second half had considerably less scoring as each team combined for 18 points in the final two periods.
Ajia Robinson led Berwick with 14 points, while McKenzie Baumgartner had 2 points and Brittany Boudreaux, 1.
Against Houma Christian, the Lady Panthers trailed 14-7 after the first quarter, 23-9 at the half and 40-15 after three quarters.
Robinson led the squad with 9 points, while Reed added 5 and Kayla Francise had 3.
Berwick (2-5) will return to action Tuesday when it travels to face Morgan City at 6 p.m.
Berwick Panthers fall at
Tournament of the Teche
The Berwick Panthers dropped their finale at Centerville’s Tournament of the Teche to E.D. White, 56-32.
E.D. White outscored Berwick in every quarter, taking a 19-6 lead after the first quarter, a 31-13 advantage at the half and a 40-21 lead after three quarters.
Audwin Williams led the Panthers with 15 points, while Tim Shelby and Brandon Naverro had 6 apiece and Cody Roberie, 5.
Berwick (5-3) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Hanson, with junior varsity action set for 6 p.m. and varsity play to follow.
MCHS drops a pair at
Terrebonne’s tourney
The Morgan City Tigers dropped a pair of contests at the Terrebonne Tiger Classic, falling to H.L. Bourgeois, 92-64, Friday and South Lafourche, 44-34, Saturday.
H.L. Bourgeois took a 17-15 lead at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead slightly by halftime to 36-33.
While Morgan City led midway into third quarter, 48-44 on the strength of four 3-pointers, the Braves bounced back and took a 62-51 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the final period, H.L. Bourgeois exploded for 30 points, while Morgan City scored 13.
Jaylen Jones led Morgan City with 17 points, while Malcolm Watkins added 14; Kolbi Chatman, 10; and Abram Hartley, 9.
In Saturday’s loss to South Lafourche, the Tigers took an 18-4 lead early in the second quarter after connecting on 4-of-7 3-pointers. Buddy Humphrey had two of those.
South Lafourche cut the lead to 26-21 by halftime using free-throw shooting, while South Lafourche took a 34-32 lead after the third quarter and outscored Morgan City 10-2 in the final period.
Humphrey had 8 points for Morgan City. No other statistics were available.
Jones was named to the all-tournament team.
Morgan City (1-8) will return to action Tuesday when it hosts Franklin at 7 p.m.
