CCHS avoids CLA upset bid

Christian Life gave Central Catholic all it wanted, but in the end, the Eagles used a late-inning rally to top the visitors from Baton Rouge, 3-1.
In a pitchers’ duel, Christian Life plated one run in the top of the second inning via a solo home run.
The score remained that way through five full innings as Christian Life and Central Catholic each recorded just two hits.
However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, the Eagles rallied with three runs. Samuel Guarisco drove in the first two runs on a two-RBI single, while Matthew Barbier earned the Eagles’ other RBI in the inning when he drew a bases-loaded walk to score another run.
While Christian Life, ranked No. 15 in the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association Class 1A power rankings, loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning, Bryson Barbier got out of the jam for the save and to avoid an upset of the No. 2 Eagles.
Samuel Guarisco earned the win for the Eagles. In 6.2 innings, he surrendered an earned run on four hits with four walks and fanned three.
In 0.1 innings of relief, Bryson Barbier issued just one walk.
The teams combined for just nine hits with Central Catholic totaling five.
Guarisco led the Eagles with a 1-for-3 performance with two RBIs, while Matthew Barbier was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
The Eagles (16-2) have won eight straight and will return to District 7-1A action today when they travel to face Lafayette Christian in a 5 p.m. contest.
Elsewhere, Patterson’s game against Donaldsonville has been moved up to a 4 p.m. start, while Central Catholic’s softball game against Highland Baptist has been pushed back to 6 p.m. The CCHS softball game will be broadcast on KBZE 105.9 FM and KFRA 1390 AM.
