CCHS baseball to face Hanson Friday in Sulphur

District 7-1A rivals Central Catholic and Hanson Memorial will square off for a third time this season when they meet Friday in one of two Class 1A semifinal games at 5 p.m. at McMurry Park in Sulphur.
Central Catholic, Class 1A’s top seed, advanced to the semifinals with an 8-4 victory against No. 9 Cedar Creek in Ruston Thursday.
Meanwhile, Hanson, Class 1A’s fifth seed, qualified for the semifinals after defeating No. 13 Catholic High of Pointe Coupee, 6-5, in Franklin Friday.
Central Catholic (26-4), Class 1A’s top seed, is making its fifth straight Class 1A semifinal appearance. Hanson (22-8), the No. 5 seed, has advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2009.
This is the third time the two teams will meet this season. Hanson won the first game, 7-3, while Central Catholic took a rain-shortened second game, 12-1.
Central Catholic won the district title with a 13-1 mark, while Hanson finished tied for second place with Vermilion Catholic, as both recorded 11-3 marks in league play.
The loss to Hanson was Central Catholic’s lone loss to a Class 1A school this season.
Vermilion Catholic (21-10), the No. 6 seed in the Class 1A playoffs, will play in the other semifinal against No. 7 Oak Grove (17-7) at 2 p.m. Friday.
Both semifinal games will be played on Field 37 at McMurry Park.
The two semifinal winners will meet Friday on Field 37 at 4 p.m. for the Class 1A title.
