CCHS boys finish 4th at District 7-1A meet

Central Catholic High School finished fourth in boys team scoring and seventh in girls team action at the District 7-1A track and field meet Tuesday at Northside High School in Lafayette.

Central Catholic’s boys totaled 70 points, while its girls scored 27 points. Vermilion Catholic won the boys team title with 145 points, while Lafayette Christian took the girls team title with 191 points.

Central Catholic’s boys team was led by Cade Minton, who was named Outstanding track performer. Minton won the 3,200-meter run in 10:55, while he finished second in the 800-meter run at 2:13 and second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:59.

Central Catholic qualified competitors in 13 events as the top 4 finishers move on to the regional meet Tuesday at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Minton will run in the 800-meter run, the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run.

eanwhile, Samarick Paul will compete in the 100-meter dash, Tanner Wiggins in the 400-meter dash and Tyler O’Con in the 300-meter hurdles. Paul finished third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.55, while Wiggins was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 54.47. O’Con clocked in at 46.56 in the 300-meter hurdles, good enough for fourth place.

Central Catholic also will send its 4x100-meter relay, its 4x200-meter relay and its 4x400-meter relay. The 4x100 team, composed of Sydney Holder, Jalen Johnson, Paul and Chris Singleton finished first in 44.41. The 4x200 meter team of Holder Paul, Singleton and Wiggins finished third with a time of 1:35.06. The 4x400-meter relay of Braxton Alcina, O’Con, Wiggins and DesDreian Gant finished third with a time of 3:51.04.

n the girls side, Hallie Autin and Sydney Williams each qualified for regional round action.

Autin, who finished second in the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles, will compete in both at regionals. She clocked in at 17.87 in the 100-meter hurdles and 51.88 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Williams will compete in the next round in the triple jump and shot put. She finished third at district in the triple jump with a leap of 28 feet, 9 inches, while she was fourth in the shot put with a toss of 27 feet, 11 inches.
