CCHS falls again in latest 1A poll

Following a second consecutive loss, the Central Catholic Eagles again slipped in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll, this time three spots to No. 8.
Central Catholic (1-2) received 53 points, one ahead of No. 9 St. Mary, who fell five spots from a week ago.
Central Catholic fell a week ago to Ascension Catholic, 28-21, in Donaldsonville. The Bulldogs, who received 15 votes a week ago, surged up the top 10 this week to No. 4.
Ascension Episcopal, a District 7-1A opponent of Central Catholic, remained ranked No. 3. The Blue Gators (3-0) received 111 points.
Meanwhile, another District 7-1A opponent, Lafayette Christian, received five votes. Central Catholic will face Lafayette Christian in Morgan City Thursday at 7 p.m.
Haynesville (3-0) remained the top-ranked team in Class 1A. Hayneville received 10 of 11 first-place votes and 131 points.
In Class 3A, Kaplan is the only representative from District 8-3A, which also includes Berwick and Patterson, to receive recognition this week. Kaplan (3-0 is ranked No. 7 with 71 points, just behind No. 6 Jennings.
Class 3A has a new top-ranked team as Amite replaces Lutcher, who fell a week ago to St. Amant. Amite received five first-place votes and 125 total points.
In Class 4A, Vandebilt Catholic, which competes in league play with Morgan City, is the lone representative from District 7-4A. The Terriers received eight votes in this week’s poll.
Neville (3-0) remains No. 1 in Class 4A with 132 points and 11 first-place votes.
