Staff Report

White Castle and Central Catholic couldn’t decide their contest in regulation, and White Castle barely held off the home standing squad in overtime in a 63-61 win.
While Central Catholic took a 15-12 lead after the first quarter and a 31-24 lead at halftime, White Castle worked its way back into the game in the third quarter with a 14-7 scoring advantage for a 38-37 lead after three quarters.
Central Catholic had a golden opportunity to secure a win as the squad was at the free throw line with less than 3 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter and the score tied at 51, but a missed free throw and then an off mark heave by White Castle sent the game to overtime.
While White Castle kept the pressure on in overtime, the Eagles still had a chance all the way down to its last possession.
After White Castle missed a free throw with 4.3 seconds remaining, Central Catholic got the rebound, got down the court and got a good look near the top of the key but the shot clanged off the back iron at the buzzer, giving White Castle the win.
Samson Westley led White Castle with 37 points, while Jacorey Washington scored 14.
Jalen Johnson led Central Catholic with 25 points, while Tyler Hoffpauir scored 15, Nick Case 10, Stefano Guarisco, 7 and Samarick Paul, 4.
The Eagles (4-5) will return to action this weekend when it participates in E.D. White’s tournament.
