CCHS to host Gueydan for homecoming

Central Catholic will host Gueydan High School in a District 7-1A contest Friday that also is the Eagles’ homecoming game.
The Eagles (5-3 overall, 3-1) have won four straight following a 1-3 start to the season.
Central Catholic’s latest win was a 46-6 victory against Hanson Memorial last week on the road.
Against Hanson, the Eagles continued their recent stellar defensive play as they surrendered just 100 yards of total offense to the Tigers.
Offensively, junior running back Chris Singleton turned in his second consecutive game with more than 100 yards rushing after returning two weeks ago from an injury. Against Vermilion Catholic two weeks ago, Singleton scored three touchdowns, and he followed it up with three more last week against Hanson.
Singleton had his highest rushing total of the season a week ago with 191 yards on 18 carries.
He leads the Eagles’ ground game this season with 113 carries for 705 yards and 14 touchdowns.
Senior teammate Bailey Badeaux has added 90 carries for 594 yards and eight touchdowns.
Through the air, senior quarterback Blake Byrne has completed 46 of 94 passes for 790 yards with seven touchdowns and five interceptions.
Senior Samarick Paul leads Central Catholic’s receivers with 25 catches for 370 yards and three scores, while senior Gregory Leger has eight catches for 262 yards and three touchdowns.
Central Catholic is averaging 320.1 yards a contest and surrendering just 231.8 yards a game.
The Eagles are averaging 34.6 points a contest and surrendering 20.3 points a game.
Central Catholic’s opponent this week, Gueydan, is 1-7 overall this season and 1-4 in district play. Gueydan’s lone win was a 39-18 victory against Centerville on Sept. 23.
Gueydan is averaging 16.3 points a game and surrendering 41.8 points a contest.
Friday’s game will begin at 7 p.m.
