CCHS moves up a spot in latest 1A poll

Central Catholic moved up a spot in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A football poll to No. 9 this week.
The Eagles, who have won five straight after a 1-3 start to the season, most recently defeated Gueydan, 40-24, in District 7-1A action Friday.
Central Catholic (6-3) received 36 points.
Central Catholic will return to action Friday when it meets another team ranked in the top 10 in Class 1A, Ascension Episcopal, for a share of the District 7-1A crown. Ascension Episcopal is ranked No. 3 in the latest 1A poll. The team is 9-0 this season and has been ranked No. 3 for several weeks. It received 110 points this week.
A third District 7-1A team, Lafayette Christian, also is in the top 10 at No. 10, two spots down from a week ago after losing to Ascension Episcopal Friday. The squad is 6-3 and received 30 points.
Haynesville remains No. 1 in Class 1A with a 9-0 record, 130 points and nine first-place votes.
In Class 3A, Kaplan is the lone representative from District 8-3A, which also includes Berwick and Patterson, to be ranked in the top 10. Kaplan is 9-0 and received 87 points.
De La Salle is Class 3A’s top-ranked team. The squad is 9-0, has received 129 points and eight first-place votes.
In Class 4A, Vandebilt Catholic received 10 votes. A week ago, the squad defeated Morgan City, 62-0, in District 7-4A action.
Neville remains No. 1 in Class 4A with an 8-0 mark, 132 points and 11 first-place votes.
