CCHS rises 3 spots in final 1A poll

Central Catholic rose three spots in the latest Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 1A poll, while Patterson remained idle in Class 3A.
The Eagles made the move to No. 4 after routing Ascension Episcopal, 46-22. Ascension Episcopal previously was undefeated and ranked No. 2 a week ago. The Blue Gators slipped to No. 6 in this week’s poll but still received one first-place vote. They received 70 points overall. They will open postseason play Friday when they host St. Frederick.
Central Catholic (9-1) received 87 points. The Eagles will begin playoff action Friday when they host Grambling.
Meanwhile, Vermilion Catholic (8-2) is ranked No. 5 in Class 1A, up a spot from a week ago. The Screaming Eagles received 79 points. They will host Covenant Christian Friday.
Highland Baptist received two votes in this week’s poll. They will face Cedar Creek Friday.
St. Mary’s (10-0) remained the No. 1 team in Class 1A. They received 112 points.
In Class 3A, Patterson (8-2) remained No. 8 in the latest poll after winning its finale, 43-14.
The Lumberjacks received 54 points. They will begin postseason play Friday when they host Ville Platte.
The lone other District 8-3A representative receiving recognition in the final Class 3A poll was Kaplan, who received four points. Kaplan will host Brusly Friday.
University Lab remained No. 1 in Class 3A with seven first-place votes and 115 points.
In Class 4A, Morgan City’s District 7-4A opponent, Assumption, was the lone district representative. The Mustangs, who knocked off Morgan City, 36-3, a week ago, will host West Ouachita Friday.
Neville (10-0) remains No. 1 in Class 4A. The squad received all 10 first-place votes and 120 points overall.
