CCHS run-rules Ascension Episcopal

After winning a game like this, it is easy to relax the next time out and expect for the same success to just happen.

Central Catholic broke open its District 7-1A contest with Ascension Episcopal with a seven-run third inning en route to an 11-1 mercy rule win Tuesday.
While the score was tied at 1 entering the bottom of the third, the Eagles plated seven runs in their at bat and added three more in the bottom of the sixth inning to end the game.
Central Catholic pitcher Charlie Barron tossed a two-hitter in the win. In six innings, he surrendered an unearned run on two hits with a walk and fanned four.
Offensively, Barron Courtney led the Eagles with a 3-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI, while Tyler Hoffpauir was 1-for-2 with a double, a stolen base, two RBIs and a run. Other top contributors included Nick Case, 1-for-3, two RBIs and a run; Sage Thibodaux, 1-for-4, two RBIs and a run; Samuel Guarisco, an RBI and two runs; and Matthew Barbier, an RBI and a run.
Even in the big win, the Eagles continued to leave lots of runners on base as they stranded eight in the contest.
Patterson routs
Donaldsonville
Kenny Singleton tossed a no-hitter as Patterson rolled past Donaldsonville in five innings 17-0 in the Lumberjacks’ District 9-3A opener on the road Tuesday.
Patterson scored in every inning, including a six-run third inning and a four-run fifth inning.
“Kenny did a great job on the mound,” Patterson head coach Ryan Jensen said. “I was excited for him to complete the no-hitter. It was a good team win, with everyone getting an opportunity again. I thought we did a good job putting the game away when we had the chance.”
The Lumberjacks pounded out 13 hits in the win, led by Spencer Landry’s 3-for-4 performance with a home run, three RBIs and two runs. Tyrik Singleton also finished 2-for-3 with two triples and two runs. Other top contributors included Jamey Fabre, 2-for-2, an RBI and three runs; Jake Lagrange, 2-for-2, an RBI and two runs; Sirbatian Charles, 1-for-2, a double, two RBIs and a run; Brennan Gouaux, 1-for-3, an RBI; Taylor Harris, 1-for-4, a double and three RBIs; and Kenny Singleton, 1-for-4, three RBIs.
Patterson (13-6 overall, 1-0 in district) and Donaldsonville will play the second in their district series Thursday when Donaldsonville travels to Patterson High for a 5:30 p.m. contest.
“After winning a game like this, it is easy to relax the next time out and expect for the same success to just happen,” Jensen said. “It will be a good challenge for us to make sure we show up Thursday ready to play and make sure we play to our abilities.”
John Curtis tops Berwick
Berwick went toe-to-toe on the road with Class 3A’s second-ranked team Tuesday, but John Curtis broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth for a 7-1 win against Berwick.
While both teams scored a run in the first, the score remained the same until the fifth inning when Curtis plated six runs on four hits, an error and three wild pitches.
“What I want our team to know is John Curtis is not six runs better than us,” Berwick coach Mike Thomas said. “We can play with those guys, and if we can play with them, I look forward to us making the playoffs and doing very well because that was the best team we played all year.”
According to the latest unofficial Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings, John Curtis is No. 2 and Berwick is No. 15.
Nick Duthu took the loss for Berwick. In 4.1 innings, he surrendered six runs — three earned — on eight hits with two walks and fanned five.
“I thought Nick Duthu did an excellent job,” Thomas said.
Offensively, Bobby Boudreaux led the Panthers with a 2-for-4 performance with a double and an RBI, while Brooks Richard was 1-for-4 with a double.
Berwick (12-6) will return to action Thursday when it makes the short trip to Morgan City to face the Tigers. Junior varsity action will begin at 4:30 p.m. with varsity to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Assumption
run-rules MCHS
A day after capturing a big District 7-4A win against perennial district powerhouse Vandebilt Catholic, the Morgan City Tigers fell hard to Assumption as Morgan City was defeated 10-0 in six innings.
Assumption scored in every inning except the first in the victory.
Morgan City coach Tim Vidos said the Tigers hit the ball hard but to Assumption fielders.
Morgan City was hurt by infield miscues as well as Assumption hits, Vidos said.
Grant Perry suffered the loss for the Tigers. In four innings, he surrendered six runs — two earned — on four hits with two walks and fanned one.
“Grant pitched well,” Vidos said. “If a couple of line drives get through, Grant would have beat Assumption. His last two outings have been really good.”
Evan Stadalis and Matt Lorenzo led the Tigers at the plate as each finished 1-for-3.
“Right now Evan Stadalis, Nick Spinella and Matt Lorenzo are crushing the ball,” Vidos said. “Monday against Vandebilt, those line drives got through. That’s baseball. It’s a day to day game.”
Despite Tuesday’s loss, Morgan City still remains at the top of the District 7-4A standings with Assumption as both teams are 3-1. Vandebilt, who also entered Tuesday’s action with one loss, fell to Ellender at home to drop to one game out of first place.
Morgan City (7-9 overall, 3-1 in district) will return to action Thursday when it hosts Berwick High School.
