CCHS splits weekend games

Central Catholic High School finished 1-1 this weekend at Brusly’s tournament, falling to the host squad and defeating E.D. White.
In its first game, Brusly scored two runs in the bottom of the second, three more in the fifth and two more in the sixth.
Sarah Thomas suffered the loss. In six innings, she surrendered six earned runs on 12 hits with four walks and fanned one.
Offensively, Kaleigh Navarro led Central Catholic with a 1-for-3 performance with a double.
In its second game against E.D. White, the Lady Eagles avenged an earlier season loss to the Lady Cardinals with a 10-8 victory.
Central Catholic led 4-3 after an inning and 6-4 after two complete.
While Central Catholic took as much as a 9-4 lead after four innings, E.D. White rallied with four runs in the sixth inning to cut its deficit to 9-8.
However, Central Catholic added a run in the top of the seventh and kept E.D. White off the scoreboard.
Thomas earned the complete-game victory. In seven innings, she surrendered six earned runs on 15 hits with two strikeouts.
Central Catholic had 13 hits in the contest, including three doubles and a home run.
Taylor Picou led the squad with a 3-for-3 performance with two doubles, a home run, two RBIs and three runs. Other top contributors included Cameron McDaniel, 3-for-5, two RBIs and a run; Kelly Russo, 3-for-5, a run; Hallie Autin, 1-for-4, a double, an RBI and a run; Navarro, 1-for-2, an RBI and a run; and Brooke Lipari, 1-for-3, an RBI and two runs.
Central Catholic (8-8 overall, 4-2 in district) will return to District 7-1A action today when it travels to face Gueydan in a 4 p.m. contest.
