CCHS' upset bid of Vermilion Catholic falls short, 38-28

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles fought hard against Vermilion Catholic, Division IV’s second-ranked squad, but came up short, falling 38-28 in Morgan City Tuesday in District 7-1A action.
While the Lady Eagles tied the game at 28 with about three minutes left on an Aliyah Poole free throw, Vermilion Catholic outscored the Lady Eagles 10-0 the remainder of the contest for the victory.
Central Catholic led Vermilion Catholic, 8-6, after a quarter, while Vermilion Catholic outscored the Lady Eagles, 9-3, in the second period for a 15-11 halftime lead. Each team scored eight points in the third quarter for a 23-19 Vermilion Catholic lead.
Poole led Central Catholic with 10 points. Other scorers included Yani Johnson, eight; Hallie Autin, four; and Jalaysia Bertrand and Sydney Williams, three each.
Central Catholic (11-13 overall, 5-8 in district) will return to action Friday when it hosts Hanson in a 5 p.m. district contest to conclude its regular season.
Kaplan defeats
Berwick
The Berwick Lady Panthers fell 35-27 to Kaplan in District 8-3A action in Berwick Tuesday.
Berwick led 7-4 after a quarter and the game was tied at 9 at halftime. Kaplan took a 20-19 lead after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth period.
Madison Carline led Berwick with 15 points, while Jordan Lipari and Mary Jordan Melancon each scored six.
Berwick concludes its season with a 4-19 mark, including a 2-10 record in district play.
Morgan City falls to
South Terrebonne
The Morgan City Lady Tigers fell to South Terrebonne, 46-25, in District 7-4A action in Bourg Tuesday.
Sh’Diamond Holly led Morgan City with 11 points. Other Morgan City scorers included Nia Lightfoot, five; Twanna LeBeau, four; Deryon Johnson, three; and Courtney Welsh, two.
Friday, Morgan City fell to Ellender in league play in Morgan City, 80-37.
Holly led the team with 13 points, while Alisha Singleton scored 12. Other Morgan City scorers included LeBeau, five; Johnson, three; and Lightfoot, two.
Morgan City (8-11, 2-7) will return to action Friday when it hosts District 7-4A foe Vandebilt Catholic in its regular season finale.
E.D. White eases

The E.D. White Lady Cardinals eased by Patterson, 68-28, in District 8-3A action in Thibodaux Tuesday.
No individual Patterson stats were available.
Patterson (5-14, 2-9) will return to action Friday when it conclude its regular season with a District 8-3A contest at home against Erath.
