Centerville wins District 8-B title
MAUREPAS _ The Centerville Bulldogs rallied from a seven-point fourth-quarter deficit to defeat the Martin Luther King Charter Jaguars 75-72 in overtime to claim the District 8-B Championship in a special playoff game at the Maurepas High School Friday night.
The Bulldogs are now 7-14 on the season after winning seven of their last eight games after an 0-13 start.
The Centerville Bulldogs went on a 9-6 run in the extra session, taking the 75-72 victory.
Both teams opened with a 17-17 tie in the first quarter before MLK held a 31-28 advantage at the half. MLK extended its lead to 54-47 thanks to a 23-19 run in the third quarter. Centerville retaliated with a 19-12 outburst in the final period, tying the game at 65-65 at the end of regulation. During overtime, Centerville outpointed MLK by a 9-6 margin, earning the 75-72 victory and the District 8-B Championship.
Lance Howard led the Centerville Bulldogs in scoring with 24 points on six deuces, three treys and 3 of 9 free throws.
Cole Candella tossed in 18 points on seven field goals and 4 of 6 charity shots. Marvin Strawder fired in 15 points, making good on one trey, four deuces and 4 of 8 freebies.
Rounding out the scoring for the District 8-B Champion Centerville Bulldogs were: Jaylon Williams, 9; Rodrick Harris, 5 and Cameron Pogue, 4.
