Central Catholic opened District 6, Division 5 play with a straight set victory against Houma Christian Thursday.
The Lady Eagles won 25-10, 25-9, 25-9
Meo Knight, who on Wednesday evening committed to play basketball at the University of Alabama, led the Lady Eagles with 21 kills, six digs and four solo blocks, while Gee Garrett had eight kills.
Kaitlyn Gros had four aces and 28 assists, while Olivia Crawford had four aces and Megan Landry, six digs.
Central Catholic (13-8, 1-0) will return to action this weekend when it participates in the Think Pink Tournament.
Morgan City beats
Donaldsonville
The Morgan City Lady Tigers bounced back from consecutive district losses with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-7, 25-8) win against Donaldsonville at home Thursday.
    Jaiveianna Jones had 14 kills, a block and three digs for the Lady Tigers, while Brandi Ingram had seven aces, one kill and eight digs.
   Other top contributors included Layne Reynaud, one ace, two kills, a block assist, 17 assists and three digs; Kloé Liner, two aces, four kills, one block and 11 digs; Marilynn Bailey, three aces, two kills and four digs; Savannah Loupe, four aces, one kill, one assist and seven digs; and Taylor Prince, one ace, three kills, a block assist and two digs.
    Morgan City recorded 18 aces in the contest.
In junior varsity action, Morgan City won 25-15, 25-11.
Alex Thompson had three aces, three kills, a block and four digs for Morgan City, while Karley Guidry had four aces, one kill, five assists and three digs.
Other top contributors included Cecily Feliciano, two kills, three assists and four digs; Dwanna LeBeau, two aces, three kills and four digs; Pearly Rainey, two aces, two kills and three digs; Brandi Albarado, two aces; and Elicia Dorsey, a block.
Berwick falls to E.D. White
The Berwick Lady Panthers gave E.D. White a game but couldn’t complete the upset of one of Division 3’s top teams.
The Lady Panthers fell 21-25, 14-25, 22-25.
E.D. White entered the game ranked third in Division 3, according to the latest Louisiana High School Athletic Association power rankings.
“I’m very proud of the way that we fought (Wednesday),” Berwick coach Heather Blanchard said. “We look forward to continuing district play next week. Our defense stepped up big (Wednesday) and allowed us opportunities to fight against a top team in the state.”
Brie Hill led the Lady Panthers with 11 kills, five blocks and 14 digs, while Ashton Morales had two kills, two blocks, 16 assists and six digs.
Other top contributors included Hannah Carpenter, one ace and 21 digs; Abigail Askew, five kills and two blocks; and Diana Grace Guarisco, 7 digs.
In junior varsity action, Berwick fell 22-25, 13-25, while Berwick’s freshmen team won 25-23, 22-25, 15-10.
Berwick (10-8, 2-2 in district) will return to action Monday when they travel to face Central Lafourche.
Patterson falls to Lutcher
The Patterson Lumberjills fell 3-0 to Lutcher at home Thursday.
The Lumberjills fell by scores of 17-25, 8-25, 8-25 to Division 3’s No. 2 ranked team, according to the latest power rankings.
No individual statistics were available.
Patterson (7-10, 1-3) will return to action Monday when it hosts Morgan City in district play.
