Patterson knocks
off Donaldsonville
Patterson picked up a key District 9-3A victory Tuesday with a 67-54 win against Donaldsonville on the road.
The win kept Patterson in the race for a District 9-3A title while also avenging an earlier season loss at home to the Tigers.
“It was a great team win,” Patterson head coach Ryan Taylor said. “The guys played well together all night. I’m not sure of the number of assists we had but it was high. To go into a place like Donaldsonville where they play so well at home and come out with a victory speaks volumes about the mental toughness of these guys. I’m very proud of them.”
While both teams scored 15 points in the first quarter, Patterson took a halftime lead at 31-24 after outscoring the Tigers 16-9 in the second period.
While Donaldsonville cut its third-quarter deficit to one at 36-35 after outscoring the Lumberjacks 11-5 in the period, Patterson exploded for 31 points in the fourth quarter and held Donaldsonville to 19 for the win.
Patterson had four players reach double figures led by Taylan Grogan’s 22 points.
Other scorers for the Lumberjacks included Jordan Butler with 14, Daylon Charlot, 13; Kenneth Washington, 12; and DJ Jones and Mykel Jones, each three.
As for what lies ahead Friday, the Lumberjacks will travel to face E.D. White, who is also in contention for the league title.
While Patterson enters the game 4-1 with three district contests left, E.D. White is 4-2 with two district games remaining. Donaldsonville isn’t out of contention either as the Tigers are 4-2 with two district games remaining.
“Friday night is a huge game,” Taylor said. “We have a slight lead in the standings, and it will be another tough and intense game. It will be a playoff atmosphere. Like we tell the kids all the time, you have to love games like this. It’s why you play. We will have to be prepared physically and mentally. E.D. White brings many challenges, so we will have our work cut (out) for us.”
