By DAVID FOLSE II The Associated Press

Isacc Espinoza's 31-yard field goal with less than three minutes to go in the game proved to be the game-winner as East Jefferson defeated Edna Karr 38-28 for the 2013 LHSAA Class 4A State Championship Saturday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
The win for East Jefferson (15-0) is the school's first-ever state championship in football.
Trailing 28-21, Eugene Wells would lead the Warriors on a game-tying touchdown drive that culminated with a 10-yard touchdown pass to Ronald Green. Three plays later the Warriors would recover a Devante Noil fumble and would take the lead for good on Espinoza's 31-yard field goal.
Senior free safety Jamal Veazey would seal the victory for East Jefferson when he intercepted a Kerry Taylor pass and returned it 31 yards for the touchdown to push the lead to 38-28. DeShawn Raymond would intercept another Taylor pass with less than three minutes to go in the game.
Coming into the game as one of the nation's top-ranked prep football teams with multiple Division I-A prospects, Karr finished up the season with a 12-2 record.
