Ellender edges CCHS in OT

The Central Catholic Lady Eagles couldn’t maintain a 10-point fourth-quarter lead and fell in overtime to Ellender, 71-67, in nondistrict play in Houma Thursday.
While the Lady Eagles entered the fourth quarter ahead 54-44, Ellender rallied in the fourth quarter and outscored Central Catholic 19-9 to force overtime.
In the extra period, Ellender outscored Central Catholic 8-4 for the victory.
The defeat was Central Catholic’s first since a Dec. 20 loss to University Lab. Thursday’s loss snapped a 15-game winning streak.
Randi Brown led the Lady Eagles with 28 points, while Meo Knight added 21.
Other top contributors included Megan Landry and Hallie Autin with six points each and Anastasia Johnson with four points.
Central Catholic (23-3 overall, 11-0 in District 7-1A) will conclude its regular season today with its final district game, a 6 p.m. contest against Lafayette Christian, before turning its focus to the postseason. Girls’ high school basketball brackets will be released Monday.
In other area action today, the Patterson Lumberjills will face E.D. White in the Lumberjills’ season finale. That contest is set for a 6 p.m. start.
The Berwick Lady Panthers also will conclude their season with a 6:30 p.m. contest at Donaldsonville.
In boys’ action, Central Catholic will host Lafayette Christian in a 7 p.m. contest that likely will determine the District 7-1A champion, while Patterson will host E.D. White in a 7 p.m. contest and Berwick and Morgan City will both be on the road in district play. Berwick will face Donaldsonville in a 7:30 p.m. District 9-3A contest, while Morgan City will face Vandebilt Catholic at 6 p.m. in a District 7-4A contest.
