Fitzgerald, Pellerin score 49 points in HMS victory

Casey Fitzgerald and Carlie Pellerin combined for 49 points, leading the No. 7 seed Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a thrilling 71-40 Division IV second-round victory over the No. 10 seed Westminster Christian Academy Lady Crusaders Monday at the Billy Gene Talbot Gymnasium.
Hanson dominated from the opening tip before cruising to the huge second-round victory.
Fitzgerald scored a game-high 31 points while Pellerin drained 18 to lift the Hanson Lady Tigers to the huge victory.
Three Lady Tigers finished in double digits in rebounding with Sarah Daniel grabbing 12 rebounds while Baylee Young yanked down 10 and Noel Baker also hauling down 10 boards.
Hanson Memorial set the tone early with a 19-6 first quarter run. The Lady Tigers benefited from an 11-7 second quarter run to secure a 30-13 halftime cushion. In the third quarter, the Lady Tigers went on a 22-17 flurry, increasing their lead to a lop-sided 52-30 margin. Down the stretch, Hanson Memorial cruised to the 71-40 second round playoff victory behind a 19-10 spurt.
Fitzgerald scorched the nets for 31 points on four treys, five deuces and 9 of 12 free throws. She also grabbed four rebounds while doling out three assists with two steals and one block.
Pellerin fired in 18 points on one trey, six deuces along with 3 of 4 charity shots. She also recorded four rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals.
Allyssa Young finished with nine points on one trey and two deuces along with 2 of 5 free throws. Young also grabbed four rebounds while dishing out three assists.
Daniel tallied three points while yanking down a team-leading 12 rebounds with one assist.
Baylee Young, who twice when to the Lady Tigers’ bench after aggravating a knee injury, fired in four points while grabbing 10 rebounds along with a team-high 5 blocks and one assist.
Baker contributed six points, 10 rebounds and one assist in 13 minutes of action.
Overall the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers score 71 points on 25 of 63 field goals, including six 3’s. The Lady Tigers doled out 11 assists while hauling in 48 rebounds, 8 blocks, 4 steals and 3 deflections.
Hanson Memorial (20-7) will continue in the Division IV Girls Basketball playoffs Thursday.
