Franklin wins Region II-3A track title
ABBEVILLE _ Led by the double winners Cedric Paul and Damion Williams, the Franklin Senior High School Track team won the 2014 LHSAA Region II-3A Track and Field Championship held here Wednesday.
Franklin won the 2014 regional title after amassing 94 total points, easily besting the 22-team field. Port Allen finished second with 57 points, followed by Glen Oaks (45), West Feliciana (39), Erath (36), University High (34), Kaplan (33), E. D. White (32), Church Point (31), Ville Platte (22) Baker (16), North Vermilion (16), West St. Mary (15), Parkview Baptist (15), Notre Dame (14), Livonia (10), Pine Prairie (10), Patterson (9), Port Barre (8), Berwick (7), Brusly (7), Donaldsonville (6) and Abbeville (2).
Damion Williams paced Franklin with victories in both the 110-hurdles (14.78) and the 300 hurdles (40.06). Franklin’s 4x100 meter relay team of Mark Ruffin, Charles Webb, Damion Williams and Alvontra Perro won in the time of 42.97. Franklin’s foursome of Ruffin, Webb, Williams and Perro also won the 4x200-meter relay with a 1:29.79 reading. Cedric Paul won the discus (145-04) and the shot put (51-08). Franklin’s Alvontra Perro won the 200 in the time 22.56. Franklin’s other top finishers were: Brennen Robinson, long jump, second, 21-09 and Trevions Rouchon, third, 400, 51.78.
The Abbeville Lady Wildcats won the girls division with a total of 72.50 points. Erath was second with 59 points, followed by West St. Mary (55), West Feliciana (46), Notre Dame (44), Parkview Baptist (34), E. D. White (34), Brusly (31), Baker (30), North Vermilion (28), Kaplan (26.50), Franklin (20), Ville Platte (15), Port Allen (14), Port Barre (10), Berwick (10), Glen Oaks (9), Church Point (8), University Lab (4), Patterson (4) Northwest (2) and Donaldsonville (2).
Franklin’s Fabian Small won the 200 with a winning time of 25.51. Franklin’s Tanjinique James, Fabian Small, Damonique Robinson and Wyneshia Jenkins placed third in the 4x100 in the time of 51.50.
West St. Mary’s Gerrianna Lyons was a double winner, earning first place finishes in both the discus (122-02) and shot put (39-10.25). The West St. Mary Lady Wolfpack 4x100-meter relay team of JaAzha Scott, Naishaylyn Brown, Sequoya Ferguson, Rhaya Marks won in 50.53 while the unit also won the 4x200-meter in the time of 1:46.83. West St. Mary’s Rhaya Marks earned a third place finish in the 100 (12.72) while Naishaylyn Brown posted a third place finish in the 200 (26.35).
West St. Mary’s Kyler Jackson led his team with a second place finish in the 110 hurdles in the time of 15.43. The West St. Mary 4x400 meter relay team of Peterson Edwards, Wayne Armelin, Roderick Dominick and Mason Robinson placed third with a 3:31.89 reading.
