FSHS Hornets win over Erath

Brian Robertson and Brandon McFarlane scored touchdowns in the second quarter, leading the Franklin Senior High School Hornets to a 20-14 triumph over the Erath Bobcats Friday at J. C. Dry Stadium.
Franklin earned its first win of the season to move to 1-3 while Erath slipped to 0-4 on the year.
Robertson went on a one-yard plunge to give Franklin a 6-0 advantage breaking a scoreless deadlock at the 8:36 margin of the second period.
Less than three minutes later, McFarlane scored on a 16-yard jaunt before quarterback Jarion Brown fired a bullet to Brennan Robinson on the two-point conversion as the Hornets upped their lead to 14-0 with 5:04 showing on the clock.
Erath’s Elijah Mitchell did his best to bring the Bobcats back with on a pair of touchdowns to knot the game at 14-14 in the fourth period.
Mitchell’s first touchdown came on a 90-yard run followed by a Kullan Romero extra point with 8:43 showing on the game clock. Mitchell again made his presence felt with a 57 yard fumble return as Romero splited the uprights to tie the game at 14-14 with 6:02 remaining in the contest.
Franklin fought back to gain the victory with Brandon McFarlane scoring on a nine-yard burst with only 28 seconds left to play, giving the FSHS Hornets the 20-14 victory.
Franklin amassed 242 yards on the night, including 48 rushes for 171 yards and 11 of 22 passes for 71 yards.
McFarlane led the Hornets in rushing with 15 carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns including the game-winner with 28 seconds remaining. Robertson finished with 42 yards on 17 carries and one score while Jarion Brown rushed 11 times for 21 yards. Simieon Theodile carried two times for 16 yards while Charles Burrell rushed three times for 4 yards and Tre’vions Rouchon ran one time for five yards.
Brown completed 11 passes in 22 attempts for 71 yards and no interceptions.
Brennan Robinson caught three passes for 18 yards with Simieon Theodile hauling in two passes for 22 yards and Allen Randle catching two passes for 19 yards. Tre’vions Rouchon also made two catches for 11 yards while Brandon McFarlane had two catches for one yard.
Franklin (1-3) will travel to Tiger Stadium to play the Morgan City Tigers on Friday in non-district action.
