Grizzaffi leads CCHS track participants at district meet

The Central Catholic High School track and field teams qualified several participants to the regional meet during action Wednesday at the District 7-1A meet, led by distance runner Sal Grizzaffi.
Grizzaffi qualified in three events, including winning two.
For his efforts, he was named the district’s Outstanding Track Performer.
Grizzaffi won the 1,600 meter run and the 3,200 meter run and finished second in the 800-meter run.
Grizzaffi clocked in at 4:56.80 in the 1,600 meter run, 11:05.07 in the 3,200 meter run and 2:11.43 in the 800 meter run. His time in the 800 broke the school record of 2:12.
The top four qualifiers in each event will head to regionals, which will be held at Basile High School Tuesday.
Besides Grizzaffi, other Central Catholic qualifiers included Meo Knight, who won the high jump (5-feet); Hallie Autin, who finished second in the 300-meter hurdles (52.47) and third in the 100 meter hurdles (19.16); Anastasia Johnson, third in the shot put (27 feet, 2 inches); Braxton Alcina, fourth in the 1,600 meter run (5:40); Tanner Wiggins, sixth in the 400-meter run (57.67); and the Eagles’ 4x400 meter relay of Alcina, Grizzaffi, Sydney Holder and Tyler Landry, fourth in 4:03.75.
While Wiggins finished sixth, he will advance because two participants who finished before him will not be competing in the regional meet, Central Catholic Coach David Fuhrer said.
