Hahnville routs Patterson, 30-0

By CORWIN MURRAY

Class 5A Hahnville overpowered Patterson, 30-0, Friday at the Sugar Dome in Patterson.
The Tigers rushed for nearly 400 yards while holding Patterson to just 91 yards on the ground.
Rain just before kickoff left the field in bad shape, forcing both teams to run the football.
Hahnville (2-0) scored on its second possession when standout running back Anthony Williams broke free for a 48-yard touchdown run with 3:48 remaining in the first quarter. Thomas Rassco added the point-after kick for a 7-0 lead.
Hahnville added a safety with 9:28 remaining in the second period to extend its lead to 9-0.
The Tigers’ other standout running back, Davante Clark, scored on a 7-yard run with 6:10 remaining in the half to push the Tigers’ lead to 16-0.
Clark ran for 158 yards and a touchdown, while Williams had 148 yards and three touchdowns.
“They had some big runs,” Patterson Coach Marvin Dantzler said. “They’re a quality football team, and we knew that coming in. Hahnville always has a good football team. But I think we got better, playing a big, physical football team of the likes we probably won’t see the rest of the season. I was proud that we played hard in the second half because (we) didn’t let this get totally out of hand.”
Williams added a 19-yard touchdown run to push Hahnville’s lead to 23-0 at the half.
Patterson (0-2) managed just one first down and 23 rushing yards in the first half. The Lumberjacks had just 120 yards of total offense in the game.
“We schedule these games so we can get better, and we got better over the last two weeks,” Dantzler said. “If we had played this way last week, then it might have been a different outcome.”
Patterson quarterback Dillan Giandelone led the ’Jacks with 60 yards rushing, Dajon Richard had 18 yards and Dontre Nicholas had 11 yards.
Giandelone was 4-of-10 passing for 29 yards.
Richard had two receptions for 18 yards to lead the Patterson receivers.
“It was a tough night, but I told the kids to trust the process,” Dantzler said. “We have a very good 2A team next week (Catholic High-New Iberia), and then we are in district play. I really feel that we are a better team from playing two playoff 5A teams and hope the kids feel the same as well.”
Patterson had its best drive of the game after halftime, gaining 60 yards, but the drive stalled and Christian Soria missed a 36-yard field-goal attempt.
The lone bright spot for Patterson came on the defensive side of the ball. Sophomore safety Drew Lucas was in on nearly every tackle.
“Drew is a football player,” Dantzler said. “That’s the best way to describe him. He’s small (5’9, 140), and it was his first start. He’s … on offense, defense and special teams because he competes.”
For Hahnville, Williams added a 20-yard touchdown run with 2:15 remaining in the third quarter to conclude the scoring.
Hahnville will travel to Riverside Friday, while Patterson will host Catholic High-New Iberia (2-0).
