Hanson Tigers shut out Madison Prep in Class A opener

Jacob Hebert remained undefeated on the season and Bo Barrilleaux slapped a two-run homer Thursday as the Hanson Memorial Tigers shut out the Madison Prep Chargers, 12-0, in the first round of the LHSAA Baseball Playoffs.
Hanson (23-2) manufactured 10 runs over the first four innings, building a 10-0 lead en route to the 12-0 victory.
“We weren’t used to the type of pitching where he had a shaky motion and a slow delivery,” Hanson Coach Ryan Stoute said. “As the game progressed, we got better. Overall, I was pleased with our effort as I think we were above average.”
The No. 3 seed Hanson Memorial Tigers scored early and often in winning over No. 30 seed Madison Prep Thursday. Hanson scored three runs in the first inning, three more in the second and four in the third for a commanding 10-0 advantage.
Hebert (5-0) started for the Tigers, going three hitless innings, fanning seven and walking two. Hanson relievers Evan Thibodeaux and Brennan Young saw limited duty, tossing one inning apiece. Thibodeaux went one inning, giving up one walk while striking out three. Young allowed one hit with one walk while fanning three.
Hebert picked up the mound win after facing 11 batters, fanning seven while walking two over three innings. He didn’t allow a run while tossing 50 pitches with 32 strikes and 18 balls. Thibodeaux tossed one frame, pitching to four batters for 23 total pitches with 13 strikes and 10 balls. Young worked the final inning, facing six batters for a total of 24 pitches with 13 strikes and 11 balls.
“Jacob (Hebert) settled down after the first inning and he became sharper as the game went on,” Stoute said. “He was above average and he did a good job. Overall our pitchers did a good job as we just wanted to give the others (Thibodeaux and Young) a little work.”
Barrilleaux, who went 1 for 4 with three runs and three RBI, scored the Tigers’ first run of the game on a passed ball. Barrilleaux reached on one of six errors on the day for the Chargers before swiping second base and moving into scoring position. He rounded the bases, later tagging home plate, giving HMS a 1-0 lead. Cameron Stovall received a free pass to first after drawing a full count and swiped second and third bases before scoring on Jacob Hebert’s RBI single, handing HMS a 2-0. Spencer Bishop entered as a courtesy runner for Hebert and later tagged home plate on an errant pickoff attempt, sending HMS outfront by a 3-0 score.
Hebert settled down after the lead off walk and then the Tigers came to his support.
The Tigers continued their rally in the second inning with three runs for a 7-0 advantage.
HMS’ Brennan Young, Britt Young and Josh Sanchez all tagged home plate, pushing the Tigers ahead by a 6-0 lead. Brennan Young strolled to first on a walk before Britt lined a single, putting runners in scoring position. Both runners advanced on a balk before Josh Sanchez beat out a bunt single delivering Brennan Young while Britt Young circled third base and kept running for the score. Sanchez later swiped second base and scored, giving HMS an insurmountable 6-0 lead.
HMS struck for four more runs in the bottom half of the third frame, stretching its lead to 10-0.
Brennan Young, Josh Sanchez, Bo Barrilleaux and Cameron Stovall all crossed home plate for the Tigers.
Hanson’s Barrilleaux belted his first career homer in the bottom half of the fourth inning, giving HMS a 12-0 cushion.
Sanchez was issued a free pass to first base, setting up the drama of Barrilleaux’s first-ever roundtripper. Sanchez swiped second and third before Barrilleaux ripped a two-run blast, giving the Tigers the 12-0 triumph.
Barrilleaux went 1 for 4 with a two-run homer while scoring three runs and adding three RBI. Cameron Stovall went 1 for 1 with two runs while Jacob Hebert helped his own cause by going 1 for 2 with one RBI. Brandon Bonin was 1 for 3 with one RBI while Brennan Young went 1 for 2 with two runs and Britt Young was 1 for 3 with one run. Josh Sanchez went 2 for 2 with three runs and one RBI while Spencer Bishop had one run.
Hanson (23-2) will advance to the second round by hosting No. 14 seed Ascension Catholic of Donaldsonville early next week.
