Centerville Bulldogs win over Gueydan
GUEYDAN _ The Centerville Bulldogs posted a 56-30 District 7-A opening victory over the Gueydan Bears here Tuesday.
With the road win at Gueydan, the Centerville Bulldogs improved to 4-5 on the season and 1-0 in district.
Centerville outscored Gueydan in every quarter, including a 16-8 lead in the initial period. The Bulldogs outpointed the Bears 14-9 in the second period for a 30-17 cushion at intermission. During the third quarter, Centerville went on a 7-5 run to take a 37-22 advantage. Down the stretch, Centerville flexed its muscles with a 19-8 flurry en route to the easy 56-30 triumph.
Leading scorers for the Centerville Bulldogs were: Jaylon Williams, 20; Lance Howard, 10; Marvin Strawder, 8; Cole Candella, 6; Karl Young, 4; Desmond Monette, 3; Marquis Strawder, 3 and Jaqualon Bourgeois, 2.
Gueydan’s leading scorers were: Cade Sonnier with 11 points and Colton Woods with 10 points.
The Bulldogs will host Central Catholic on Friday.

HMS Lady Tigers top AES
YOUNGSVILLE _ Sarah Sonnier, Carli Pellerin and Alyssa Young all scored in double figures, leading the Hanson Memorial Lady Tigers to a 51-37 District 7-A victory over the Ascension Episcopal School Lady Gators here Tuesday at the AES Gym.
Sonnier poured in 14 points while Pellerin and Young tallied 13 points apiece. Casey Fitzgerald finished with five points while Sarah Daniel bagged four points and Baylee Young tossed in two points.
Hanson will travel to face Vermilion Catholic on Friday in District action.

AES holds off HMS
YOUNGSVILLE _ The Ascension Episcopal School Gators posted a 61-40 District 7-A opening win over the Hanson Memorial Tigers here Tuesday at the AES Gym.
Bo Barrilleaux led the HMS Tigers with 19 points on six deuces, two treys and 1 of 2 free throws. Brennan Young poured in nine points on a trio of treys for HMS. Other scorers for Hanson were: Josh Sanchez, 2; Clint Young, 2; Andrew Luke, 2; Brian Sonnier, 2; Schyler Fitch, 2; Brock Broussard, 1 and Robert Camors, 1.
Hanson will travel to face Vermilion Catholic on Friday in league play.

FSHS Lady Hornets slip by Berwick, 33-23
BERWICK _ Kaira Butler fired in 19 points, leading the Franklin Lady Hornets to a 33-23 District 8-3A victory over the Berwick Lady Panthers here Tuesday at the Berwick High School Gym.
Franklin sailed to a 9-2 lead in the opening quarter before securing a 17-5 advantage at intermission. At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Hornets held on to a 21-14 cushion. Down the stretch, Franklin outpointed Berwick by a 12-9 margin on the way to the ten-point, 33-23, district opening victory.
Butler lead the Lady Hornets with 19 points on eight field goals and 3 of 7 free throws. Quanta Jones tossed in eight points on three field goals and 2 of 4 free throws. Chardonnae Parker finished with four points on a pair of floor shots while Jazmin Byers bagged two points, going 2 for 2 from the charity stripe.
Franklin’s Lady Hornets will play host to the E.D. White Lady Cardinals on Friday in league play.
