HMS Tigers edge Lafayette Christian
The Hanson Memorial Tigers evened their District 7-A record at 1-1 following Friday’s 25-20 victory over Lafayette Christian at McCloskey Field.
Hanson (4-1, 1-1) opened the scoring at 6-0 in the first quarter when Jacob Stewart grabbed a 13-yard scoring pass from quarterback Bo Barrilleaux.
Jeffrey Soulis handed the Tigers a 12-0 advantage following the first of his two touchdowns on a four-yard run in the second quarter.
Lafayette Christian managed to trim Hanson’s lead to 12-7 in the second quarter when Dylan Hargrave reeled off a 27-yard TD before Wyatt Moreaux was good on the kick. A short time later Hayden Lessard gave LCA a 14-12 lead when he caught an 11-yard TD pass from Regan Miller before Bryce Badon split the uprights on the kick.
Hanson’s Barrilleaux hit paydirt from 1-yard out, giving the Tigers an 18-14 lead at the end of the second quarter.
Hanson extended its lead in the third quarter when Soulis scored from 12 yards out before kicking the point-after to hand the Tigers a 25-14 advantage.
LCA’s Miller scored on a 4-yard run but it was too little, too late as the HMS Tigers held on for the 25-20 District 7-A victory.
Hanson will take on parish rival Central Catholic on Thursday in league action.
