'Jacks falter late in 7-6 loss to Gators

Staff Report

Patterson High School continues to be plagued by one-run games as the Lumberjacks couldn’t hold a lead against South Terrebonne Monday, falling 7-6.
Leading 6-2 heading into the top of the sixth inning, the Lumberjacks surrendered four runs in the frame, allowing South Terrebonne to tie the game.
In the top of the seventh, South Terrebonne plated the winning run.
“Another game with a very similar theme,” Patterson head coach Ryan Jensen said. “We play a good team and outplay them all night, and then one inning we implode. We gave them the baseball game. With (two) outs in the (sixth) and a (three) run lead, we manage to make a huge mental mistake and follow that up with a physical mistake and they tie it. And then in the (seventh), we once again don’t make the play necessary to win. Kenny (Singleton) was great on the mound. Jake (Lagrange) was great on the mound. We were great offensively. We just didn’t finish.”
Jake Lagrange suffered the loss. In one inning, he surrendered one earned run on one hit with one hit batter. He fanned one.
Starter Kenny Singleton received a no-decision. In six innings, he surrendered six runs — three earned — on five hits with four walks and fanned six.
Offensively, Patterson outhit South Terrebonne 11-6.
Brennan Gouaux led Patterson with a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI and a run.
Other top contributors included Jamey Fabre, 2-for-4, a double, an RBI and two runs; Singleton, 2-for-4, an RBI and a run; Lukas Carnley, 2-for-3, a double and two runs; and Tyrik Singleton, three RBIs.
Patterson will return to action today when it hosts Donaldsonville in a District 9-3A doubleheader. Game 1 will begin at 4 p.m.
