'Jacks runaway from Panthers in the second half

Patterson outscored Berwick, 34-17, in the second half to break open a close game at halftime en route to a 59-40 victory in District 8-3A action.
While Patterson (7-7 overall, 2-0 in district) has defeated Berwick (13-9, 2-1) in recent years, Berwick entered Tuesday’s contest with the better record and the higher Louisiana High School Athletic Association power ranking.
However, Patterson continued its winning streak against its rival in picking up the big win.
While Patterson took a 15-10 lead after a quarter and led 25-14 with two-plus minutes remaining in the first half, Berwick outscored the Lumberjacks, 8-0, the remainder of the first half to cut its deficit to 25-22 at halftime.
However, Patterson outscored Berwick, 14-7, in the third period for a 39-29 lead after three quarters before closing the game with a 20-10 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter.

Patterson made five three-pointers.
Larenz Clark led Berwick with 12 points, while Donald Tillman had 10. Other scorers included Tysin Meads, eight; Travis Whitehead, seven; and Cody Roberie, three.
The win was Patterson’s second straight, while Berwick’s four-game winning streak was snapped.
This weekend, Patterson defeated Kaplan on the road Saturday, 49-26.
While the District 8-3A contest originally was scheduled for Friday, it was postponed a day due to the frigid weather conditions.
Patterson outscored Kaplan in every quarter, taking a 17-8 lead after a quarter, a 23-12 lead at the half and a 34-19 lead after three quarters.
Garrett led Patterson with 11 points, while Schexnayder also reached double figures with 10 points. Other Patterson scorers included Butler, nine; Harris, eight; Drew Lucas, three; and Brooks, Richard, James Butler and Williams, two points apiece.
Patterson will return to action Friday when it hosts E.D. White in District 8-3A action. Tipoff is set for approximately 7:45 p.m.
Berwick will hit the road Friday when it travels to face Kaplan in district play. Varsity is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Vandebilt Catholic
Morgan City opened District 7-4A action with a 64-30 rout of Vandebilt Catholic in Houma Tuesday.
The Tigers outscored the Terriers in every quarter as Morgan City took a 22-6 lead after a period of play, a 34-14 lead at halftime and a 48-23 advantage after three quarters.
Makye Richard led Morgan City with 15 points, while Deondre Grogan also reached double figures with 10 points. Other scorers included Kerwin Francois, nine; Jared Singleton, eight; Ke’Sean Francois and Morrquise Charles, six points apiece; Tywaun Walker, five; Ronnell Williams, four; and Devonta Grogan, one.
Vandebilt Catholic hit five three-pointers in the loss
Morgan City (11-5, 1-0) will return to action Friday when it hosts South Lafourche in district play. Varsity boys’ action is set to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m.
CCHS routs
Highland Baptist
Central Catholic routed Highland Baptist, 82-18, in District 7-1A action in New Iberia Tuesday.
Ja’len Johnson led the Eagles with 17 points, while Brooks Thomas scored 15 and Elijah Swan added 10.
The Eagles (6-6, 2-1) will look to win their third straight Friday when they travel to face Vermilion Catholic in Abbeville in district play. Varsity action is set to begin at approximately 7 p.m.
