'Jacks to travel to North Webster today

The Patterson Lumberjacks will take the long trip to near the Arkansas border when it travels to face North Webster today in Class 3A first-round action set for a 6 p.m. start.

Patterson (12-16) enters the contest as the No. 26 seed in Class 3A, while North Webster (22-6) is the No. 7 seed.

After an 8-7 start to its season, Patterson had a rough time in the latter portion of its season, including District 8-3A play where the Lumberjacks finished 3-9 for a sixth-place finish.

However, the Lumberjacks snapped a four-game losing streak and a nine-game losing streak in District 8-3A play with a pair of run-rule victories against Franklin in a doubleheader Friday to conclude the regular season.

Meanwhile, North Webster (22-6) comes into today’s game as the District 1-3A champion with a 4-0 mark. The Knights have won eight straight games. Their last loss was a 10-5 defeat to Haughton on March 31.

The teams have no common opponents this season.

The winner of the Patterson/North Webster contest will face the winner of No. 10 De La Salle and No. 23 Pine Prairie in second-round action.
