'Jacks win season opener

Patterson outscored Plaquemine in the fourth quarter Thursday to secure a 40-33 win against the Green Devils at Brusly’s tournament.
In its season opener, Patterson entered the fourth quarter leading 24-23 before outscoring Plaquemine 16-8 in the final period.
Patterson had a hot start to begin the game as they outscored Plaquemine 17-6 in the first quarter and took a 21-10 lead into halftime.
However, Plaquemine came back in the third quarter, outscoring Patterson 13-3.
Nehemiah Augustus led Patterson with 11 points.
Other scorers included Kenneth Washington and Dajon Richard with seven points apiece; Taylan Grogan, six; DJ Jones, three; and Jordan Butler, Khyri Harris and Deondre Diggs, two points apiece.
Patterson (1-0) will continue play in the tournament tonight when it faces Port Allen in an 8:30 p.m. contest.
Berwick beats Grace King
Berwick improved to 4-1 this season with a 58-44 victory against Grace King Thursday at Terrebonne’s tournament.
While the Panthers trailed 13-11 after the first quarter, they outscored Grace King 16-9 in the second period for a 27-22 halftime lead.
Berwick extended its lead to 44-32 after three quarters.
Kenan Jones led the Panthers with 17 points, six rebounds and one steal.
Other contributors included Audwin Williams, nine points, five rebounds, three blocks, one steal and two assist; Travis Whitehead, eight points, nine rebounds, one block, three steals and one assist; Donald Tillman, eight points, three rebounds, two steals and three assists; Cody Roberie, five points; Larenz Clark, four points and one assist; Tysin Meads, four points, seven rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist; and Silton Span, three points.
Berwick (4-1) will return to action today at Terrebonne’s tournament when it plays two games. The Panthers will face South Lafourche at 3:30 p.m., and later in the day, they will play Terrebonne in an 8 p.m. contest.
On Saturday, Berwick will play Covenant Christian in a 4:30 p.m. contest.
