Morgan City High School volleyball standout Jaiveianna Jones has signed to continue her volleyball career at Grambling State.
Jones said she was not looking at volleyball after high school initially.
“I did look at other schools but not volleyball wise, so just the offer from Grambling kind of caught my eye,” she said.
She said a referee who had called Morgan City volleyball games had passed along her and teammate and cousin Brandi Ingram’s contact information to Grambling State university’s head coach.
Jones said an offer to play college volleyball was just too much to pass up.
During her time at Morgan City, Jones was a multi-year all-district selection and an offensive threat for the Lady Tigers.
Morgan City volleyball coach Christy Theriot said Jones is a playmaker.
“If she’s on, she’s on and she’s going to put it down on the floor,” Theriot said. “She’s a go-to person, she wants to have the ball. I think she’s going to be an asset.”
Theriot said Jones has been a hard worker and has had a positive attitude throughout her time at Morgan City.
Jones said she expects to be a middle hitter for the Tigers, a position she is most familiar with.
She said she would be competing with one other player for time at the middle hitter position.
As for getting the opportunity to play college ball, she said “it means a lot.”
Theriot was pleased an official referred Ingram and Jones to Grambling’s coach.
“It's nice to have people everywhere looking out for you,” she said.
