Jones signs with Southwest Baptist

Morgan City High School standout Jaylen Jones signed with the Southwest Missouri Baptist University Bearcats Wednesday, Morgan City head football coach Scott Tregle said.
Jones, who didn’t play defense much as a senior, was recruited as a defensive back and a kick returner and as a member of the school’s track team.
While he didn’t see a lot of time on defense as a senior, Tregle said Jones is more than capable to play on the defensive side at the Bolivar, Missouri, university. Jones was a second-team all-district defensive back as a junior.
This past season, Jones was a first-team all-district selection as a wide receiver as a senior and an honorable mention choice as a return specialist.
During his senior season, Jones caught 26 passes for 530 yards and six scores.
He rushed 27 times for 214 yards and two scores, while he completed 1 of 3 passes for 26 yards and a score.
Jones also had two touchdowns on punt returns and four touchdowns on kickoff returns in his senior season.
He was one of 20 signees for the Bearcats, a Division II school.
Jones will hold a signing ceremony during halftime of the Tigers’ Senior Night contest against Vandebilt Catholic Feb. 13.
